Very nice indeed.
One thing I noticed:
MOB = (M)oving (OB)ject -- used to describe creatures in game.
As far as I know it means mobile and comes from muds. Sorry if I'm wrong, I'm pretty sure though.
Well okay, its pretty much the same, just wanted to clear that for me

Everything in the game is "uber." For those not familiar,I believe it's a German description meaning "improved," or in this game, "better than what you have."

For a more serious set of newbie tips, however... /find will open up a dialog box that you can use to create waypoints to everything from trainers to vendors to faction bases (if you've joined a faction).

If you receive a /tell from someone nearby who wants you to meet them, you can try /target <name> and if they're in the area, they'll be targeted. Also works with NPCs and items of all types. /findfriend <name> will create a waypoint for you to anyone who's on your friends list and has you on theirs.

Before contributing to the spam in major cities if you need training, try using the search feature under control-p to look for people who may have the skills you need. For instance, all Bounty Hunters and Commandos can teach any marksman skill. Simply send one of them a /tell and most will train you, saving the need to stand and yell till someone trains you to shut you up

Don't beg for money, buffs, or equipment. A lot of the older players started with 250 credits, no droid to give paying quests, and no mounts or vehicles... we had to walk everywhere and earned everything ourselves! Helpers like myself aren't banks, but we'll help you learn how to earn money on your own. If all else fails, ask your helper droid. He's actually quite helpful. You may find that spending your first 1k credits on some decent clothing on the bazaar and picking up a nearby POI badge or 2 will get you a little more respect from veteran players. I'll give a newbie anything he needs that I can afford, if he doesn't ask. I've given away Krayt enhanced (ie, "uber") weapons, armor, money, etc, to newbies who show a little gumption in getting things done themselves and ask the right questions.

If you need new equipment, you can always start on the bazaar, but your best bet might be to look on the map under control-v and use the filters on the right hand side to locate player vendors. For instance, a novice Marksman can use a D-18 pistol. Most of the D-18s on the bazaar are looted ones with poor stats, with maximum damage around 40. A player weaponsmith with decent materials can make one with maximum damage around 120 and speed under 2.0 (speed is very important for beginners) for about the same as you'd pay for a crappy looted one on the bazaar... and they may just give it to you if you don't assume they owe you something.

Most of all, don't be afraid to ask a Helper for information (you can search for them under control-P as you would for someone of any profession), but try to figure it out yourself if you can! Helpers love newbies who can help themselves, and you might even get invited into a guild that can give you a good jump on defining your character. I've seen newbies get in with a good guild and become a multi-millionare merchant/crafter in a matter of months, or a smart, powerful fighter.

That's about all I have for now. Any newbies on the Bloodfin server can always seek me out for advice or help, but remember it's my job to help you help yourself, not instantly give you everything you need to be "uber."

Thanks Tiggs! And thanks to all the people who read the original guide stickied in the game guides and recommended this for a game guide! I hope it helps.

Some of my pet peeve bugs:
•Armorsmith protection layers were not converted with the CU.
•Ship Details window does not close when you click "Travel" resulting in the message "You have lost the target. Closing interface."

BTW, good idea of working on the front page, some updates are needed

Handy little guide, but it was missing "QFE" in the acronym section. I still have no idea what that means though I see it on some messages now and then. Also I use "XP" more to mean e(X)perience (P)oints, which is not a big difference.

Coupleerrorsin there: (one typos one bizzare coding thing)

First, under the description of uber, the ber half is a hyperlink that comes up with a permission error.

Second, and I liked this:

  • TKA = (T)erds (K)dsi (A)rtist
  • TKM = (T)erds (K)dsi (M)aster

  • I'm TKM, so I'm a Terds Kdsi Master! (Teras Kasi Master)

EDIT: Almost forgot, great guide. I never knew what QfE meant either... . Nice work.

I never knew that one either. I left out a few like AFAIK and FWIW, but maybe I'll ask Tiggs to get those added.

The thing with über and Teräs Käsi Artist both happened because I use the ANSI (or ASCII) code characters for those andwhatever they used to translate itto the webpagestripped the ä characters and replaced them with d's. And the ü somehow became // and then when I asked for it to be corrected it became U//ber which ended up looking like a link. Funny stuff.
