I am just wondering. All I hear is how the game doesn't follow the timeline, or how items/characters aren't supposed to exist in the the game because they arent in any of the movies or books. How is SOE supposed to keep the game fresh?
I think that adding items/characters or anything that isn't in the known Star Wars universe is alright by me. What is SOE suppused to do? Wait for the movie #7, or the next book? Like the new "Destroyed the Deathstar" badge. Yes, it is supposed to be destroyed already, but in my opinion. . . "Hey it's another mission, and more content for JTL, that some think lacks in the first place.
Why do you think it is vital? How does it ruin the game?
or
Why do you not mind if they do?
Pleae keep the posts to why, and how? Not why you have contempt for SOE.
On another note, I have NO idea how this got triple posted. I pressed submit once. Oh well. Devs, please delete the other two. [

While I don't mind so much on certain issues like jedi and stuff like that, the Deathstar is a HUGE thing! It is the very basis for not one, but two of the original movies. You can't just throw something like that around. Some people think that jedi hold the same position, but I think being able to become a jedi is ok. Otherwise we might not have the player basis we really need. However, being able to do DEATHSTAR missions!?!?!?! Thats just ridiculous.

Let's say SOE added content such that the it was rebuilt as Death Star II? As long as they developed the story line from the quarterly missions to eventually have it rebuilt by the empire, and not just throw it in JTL? Have it come in in a year or two, anfter a few more missions.
If you think about it, where did all the death star fragments come from? lol The Death Star gift shop?

I think they should stick to what they advertise the game as - between Episode 4 and 5. That is the MAJOR reason I purchased the game in the first place. But at this point they ought to just pull up stakes and change their timeframe to sometime AFTER Episode 6. With all the Jedi running around, multiple Death Star missions in JTL (plus "late model" ship inclusions), and imbalence of power (Rebels walk about Overt while Imperials hide), etc. continuity withtheir advertised period is screwed. The only things they would have to change to fix this are the Emperor, Darth Vader, and Jabba the Hutt. They can remove them entirely or explain/change them slightly - the Emperor and Darth Vader at the Emperor's Retreat on Naboo and merely "decoy" droids place there long ago (they don't do anything now, except let people slap, spit, punch them anyway). Jabba could have been replaced by his twin brother Jaba (fits right in with all the other nepotism in the Star Wars Universe). Oh, and almost forgot about Boba Fett. He'd could still be alive -just say he cuthis way out of his predicament onTatooine after Luke and Co. left andis now back in action if they want to keep him in the game. Timeline problems solved.

Timeline matters a whole lot if you plan to produce a product based on something which has already happened/ beenpublished.
For instance you wouldn't make a WWII game and have people fly Comanche helicopters and shoot M16s or miniguns at eachother - and it's the same thing with Star Wars in my opinion. If they declare a game to be within a certain "historical" (Yes, I know Star Wars is fiction but it still has a timeline) they ought to stick with it.
As it was stated earlier in the thread SOE could easily move the game to after Episode 6 where the Rebels had routed the Empire becuase of excactly those reasons. The Imperials are hiding in fear from the Rebels, there are tons of Jedi (Jedi Academy anyone?) and there are lots and lots of stuff ingame that didn't really exist in the movies (Or the Expanded Universe for that matter).
But I wonder how people would write their character bios if that happened. These days everybody and their mother had their parents killed by the Empire - I just wonder what which Empire they are talking about because the Galactic Empire is a joke in SWG as the game is now.

For me the timline matters alot,
It should have been set after episode 2 that would have made sense with all the jedi that there are now,but to have them around now makes little,or no sense at all.

Yes timeline matters. The timeline set for this game sets certain expectations. To me this is a Star Wars MMORPG. Not a MMORPG that just happens to be star wars.

Before I read these two posts, I didn't actually care too much about the timeline of the game. I thought it was nice to see new things in the game(although the Death Star is a BIT of a stretch). But those two bring up excellent points, and it is nice to see things like this instead of flames now a days. I am kind of stuck in the middle now but leaning towards pro-timeline after reading those.

Well, ya see, it's not Jaba the Hutt, it's his evil twin Joba, and that's Han Solo's boy Han Duo, that is the Death Star Deuce, and yes, that IS luke, his plastic surgeon lives on Dant. He was getting botox injections.

Timeline matters to me.
Rebels to be hiding
Jedi to be extinct (does not matter Light or Dark)
