I cant find the command to start a demo recording, is it possible?

Technically no... as in there is no in-game command for recording.. however most people who make in-game movies use this utility:

I tried that but it only records 29 seconds worth at a time, is there any way to get a longer recording time?

To be honest, I'm not sure.. I've never actually used it myself..
However, I did notice from the website that the version you download is merely a trial one, and you must pay $29.95 to register for the full version.. Maybe it's just that the trial version has a limit on it, and you need to buy the full version?
*Edit: Got this off the website:
"Registration allows you to record your games for as long as you like (or until you run out of disk space).Perform full-size recording up to 1024x768without any watermarks on your movie!"
Which implies that yes, the trial version is time limited.

Yes, registered FRAPs is a great way to take demos or make movies
