Thread: caps

In trying to put together a Pistoleer build, the subject of skill mod caps keeps coming up...for instance, you really don't need pistol speed over 80 to hit the speed cap on pretty much any pistol worth anything, or so everyone says...so I wonder what the other caps are?

For instance, after what point does additional Dodge skill cease to matter? Seems like a lot of people might be advocating dabbling too heavily into Fencer. Most of the Fencer dabbles I read about bring Dodge up to around 180, but if the cap is 100, why waste the skill points getting the additional 80 skill mod points in it?

What is the cap for Melee Defense, or Ranged Defense?

I really want to try a good Pistoleer build, but I also want to keep Novice Medic. No matter how good my mitigation, dodge, and defense skills are, I'm still going to get hit, and I don't want to have to depend on anyone else for a little heal now and again.

- We see it time and time again in the so-called "content" the developers throw at us. This ain't Star Wars. It's some rip in the space-time continuum that spawned a parallel universe in which Order 66 went horribly-wrong and thousands of Jedi babies got smuggled away like Luke to be raised elsewhere, and now they are all coming of age and making holy terrors of themselves on the normal population for having turned on them a generation ago.

I would say you need a pistol speed of about 95 to be able to shoot specials on pretty much any gun at 1 second. If you get 100 you could shoot any speed imaginable at 1 second. There is no reason to go above 100 speed.

Dodge/Counterattack/Block and Melee/Ranged defense all cap at 125. There is no point in gaining skills to increase these if you are capped.

Those are the only caps I can think of. After you get your speed up to about 95-100 then you would want to getas muchaccuarcy as you can. There is no cap on accuracy.

Others may disagree, but I think speed is extremely important for the pistoleer. +80 is good but I really think you should try to get in the +90s if possible. With +90, you can use a 2.6 weapon to fire Stopping Shot at the cap. For something like a 3.5 speed DE-10, you will need +93.

Here is a great SWG Damage Calculator.

Anything that can get to +125 is capped at +125. But you can still get the +25 from skill attachments in addition to whatever bonus you get from food. Take dodge for example...

If capped at +125, you can add +25 in SEAs, and around +20 in food to get you up to +170 dodge.
