Thread: The infamous circle technique in space

I think that you will find that the enemy is only seemingly flying in cricles, when in actuality the ship is stopped and it's you that is flying in circles. Like the previous poster stated, come to a complete stop and fire away. Once a ship is stopped, it usually means it's down to it's last breathe, and one shot will kill it.
Well not always........enemy has 100% on all systems and flies in circles.....I doubt he's on his last breath.

This is true especially on the higher end NPC's they are continually rolling to try and get behind you - this is the improved AI - I usually roll and yaw trying to keep him slighly above or below me I ignore the ship and set my target a few meters in front of the lead target area and swing around as quickly as I can - then keep my weapon fire button held down -
All the time continue to roll and use the yaw to delay his circling..... eventually you will wear him down and he will try and fly away from you then you can nail him. When I did duty mnissions this always happens when I have to kill the Master Pilots that spawn in the later part of the missions.
Tactics my friend and patience. keep firing away.

Does anyone know how to counter the move in space where the enemy flies around inc ircles and you arer unable to hit him even when you lead?
Any help would be appretiated
With greater experience and skill you'll have an easier time hitting them, but here are some maneuverability tips:
Always attack at half-throttle. That gives you good forward velocity and best movement. Yaw androll and pitch at the same time until you're travelling straight up or straight down at an offscreen target. That should bring you in behind them or nose-to-nose. Have a finger on the throttle if they're pulling away and run em down emptying your capacitor. Always target the engine or reactor. Once you've damaged those, they slow considerably; once those are destroyed the ship is dead in space and at your mercy.
A lot of enemies, especially Ties, like to come charging in on attack runs. They'll run out to 600m or so and then come barreling in. Learn to anticipate this and line your reticle up halfway between the attacking ship and the lead indicator. Target the reactor and empty your capacitor as they charge. If you have decent weapons and capacitor, you'll kill their shields/armor (and sometimes disable or destroy them) on the first run.
The AI is good... these guys know how to fight... but ultimately predictable. I almost always know what an NPC Tie pilot is going to do; it's just a matter of with what skill he does it, and that depends on his tier level. But if a twitch-skill newbie like me can handle higher tier Ties (very fast and agile, and can turn on a dime)in a slow as molasses Y-Wing, you'll catch on ![]()

Another question: (Thx guys for all your help with the first)
I've noticed alot of talk over targeting certain systems. How do you target certain systems on an enemy vessel? Is there a certain command or key, or do you just have to know where to aim and hit?
