Subject says it all. I have been killed many times by either not being able to target a mob quickly enough or by thinking I had a mob targetted when I actually had the lair behind him targetted. We have no good alternatives. Trying to target with the cursor is very unreliable when surrounded. One can make a "target nearest" macro but it is not good enough, it frequently targets lairs or even helpful npc's. Come on devs, you already have something similar to this for space, we need it in the ground game too.

Tab cycles through attackable enemies that you are facing. Its what i use.

All I have to say is...attack things that are attacking you. Don't rely on a macro or some other automated system to do it. You are supposed to be playing the game, not the system.

I am of course aware of the tab function. Tab is not adequate. Tab cycles through everything that is attackable, regardless of whether it is an enemy or not, regardless of whether it's a mob or lair. This can get you killed very fast. Examples:
Many times I have been surrounded by Janta, not really being able to see clearly who is targetted, and I will put a state on one or kill one and then cycle to the next one with tab, but for some reason it cycles to the lair instead. Or sometimes it will cycle to another mob 60m away. I can try and pick them with the cursor but that is too slow, especially when they are moving around. In all the confusion I inevitably end up taking a lot of unnecessary damage, esp. to my armor. Good armor is hard to replace.
Ealier today I was driving back to my house unbuffed and unarmored when a Monumenter went aggro on me. Okay no problem, I got off the bike and started fighting. A couple more came up, still no problem... until a bunch of Corsecs decided to come over and protect me. I didn't realize what was happening right away and accidentally targetted a Corsec using my "target nearest" macro. Tab would have done the same thing btw. Anyway that got the Corsecs aggroed on me too, so now I have 10 guys on me and no buffs or armor. Then, as if that wasn't enough, while trying to target them I again got stuck cycling though lairs and non-aggro mobs. By the time I got it straightened out I was down to about 10% of my health. Died before I could even run back to my bike.
Again, they already have both "target nearest hostile" and "target last attacker" functions in the space game. And it's a very common thing in other games. There is no reason why we should not have it in the ground game also.

I am most certainly playing the game. Why would anyone think there is anything controversial about this? We are not playing an FPS game here, we are playing an RPG. Targetting functions are a normal part of most RPG's that I have played. RPG combat is not supposed to be an aiming and twitching fest, it's about tactical gameplay where character stats determine the outcome of the conflict rather than twitch skills. There is nothing controversial or unusual about asking for the ability to be able to quickly and reliably select an appropriate target. Honestly I don't see anything unusual in what I am asking for here.
