Thread: My Theories

Well, I, like many others, have beem pondering what this solo group thing is going to do. Here's what I've come up with so far.

1. No one will run Mokk or Janta missions anymore, because they simply won't pay (you'd need to group with too many people to get them, dividing the reward too far down), and there isn't enough xp for a group to tackle them (you can get a lot more xp doing a huurton stalker lair). Therefore, the price of crystals will go WAY up. Most crystals you see for sale come from Mokk/Janta kills. And, no more Janta blood. Good quality buffs will go up in price, overall buff quality will go down.

2. No one will run Rancor missions anymore. Again, the money wouldn't be worth it solo, and groups can get just as much xp easier killing other critters. Say goodbye to rancor-related loot. I don't know what it's used for, so I don't know if that's a big deal.

3. Newer players will never catch up to the uber players, who already have 150 million credits or more. If you're just starting out as a vendor, you're starting out needing to keep your prices down, just to make sure the stuff doesn't just stay on the vendor forever. If you've just hit elite master level, your reward is that your earning potential hasn't changed at all.

4. Overall, prices should drop, therebye killing inflation. The flip side is that things will actually be more expensive, because you'll be poorer.

5. Solo groups WON'T die, because people will just use them to grind xp now. Therefore, the "exploit", as some people call it, isn't going anywhere.

6. All of this is in preparation of a combat balance that's been promised for over a year. This combat balance could be coming anywhere from a month or two from now to a year or more from now. Just beginning to take alpha test applications is no sign that the revamp is even CLOSE to going live. Heck, it could just be a way to appease all the people crying about it's delay.

7. For those people who did solo groups to grind cash, it's the end of solo grouping. They'll just take solo picket missions, because that's what'll pay. If the gripe about solo groups was that it limited community interaction, this would seem to be a step in the wrong direction. Me...I've made plenty of friends doing group chat while we each did our own thing.

Now, I'm not looking to get flamed, or one-starred, or any of that. I'm just summarizing what I've read in a lot of posts. I honestly can't see what positive effect doing this is going to have.

So far, the people who are for the change have two main arguments: it's an exploit, and/or it'll kill inflation. As for the inflation thing...stuff is going to be just as expensive. You'll just be paying fewer credits for it.

And as for people who think it's an "exploit", I respectfully disaggree. ANYONE who wants to, and who has the skill, can go to the Mining Outpost, say "Looking for a solo group" a few times, and join in the fun. For it to be an exploit, you need to be doing something that's basically unfair...what could be more fair than the fully open system currently in place? Heck, by it's very nature, solo grouping is incredibly INCLUSIVE...the more the merrier.

It's not like you're going through any extreme steps to buck the system, like, say, having a doctor around to immediatly rez you so that you can get your turn to kill someone else. You're just joining a group and going in a different direction.

And that's what I'm talking about. If you really feel you need to one star the post, then tell me why I'm wrong. I'm willing to be convinced that thiswill be good for the game. I'm not some rabid solo grouper...when I do it, I only do it to get me enough cash to get by for a week or two.

Discuss. Don't one-star.

Good summary of the important points. I *****'d ya.

However, Im not sure thatprices will go down, at least not in the short term. With so many mega rich, I think it will be some time before good kinetic composite, 12 point WS weapons, basic goods, and buffs will go down in price. Players have to have these toFS grind, and basically do any fun content in game and thus, people are going to beg borrow or stealtoget them.

Luxury items should be the first totake significant hit. People are going to be less willing to sacrific those credits for high prices paintings, rare loot, etc, when it will take 4 times as long to replace those credits.

Eventually, prices will adjust downward, but it will be at least a couple of months and there is going to be some pain until then, especially the newer players or those that haven't stocked up.

I never understood why people were willing to pay millions of credits for these decorative things or why certain loot components went for as much as 800,000cr. I'll be glad to see those numbers reach something that even resembles reasonable.

I can still do missions for 10k credits without a group so I don't think the economic impact will be all that great, since 5-8 of these missions a week typically earns me more than I can be bothered to spend anyway. As long as people realize that the money flow will tighten a little bit and adjust their spending habits things will be fine.
