Belowis the link to the post on intrepid galaxySOE forum.Just copy and paste and have a look. I take this whole post with a grain of salt, but I still want to post about this because ....

* if someone out there has figured out a way to impersonate a CSR, they could be scamming players out of their accounts!!

* If this is some sick post that the user is just making up, thanthe posterneeds to be dealt with because he's spreading lies and mistrust of SOE, and we already have enough unnecessary panic on these forums. I read a lot of post of people saying that it took them an hour and a half of rebooting to get yesterday's patch installed, but I got home, loaded up and I downloaded the change in about 20 seconds which is what it ususally takes on non-patch days.

*if the events claimed in this post did happen than the CSR needs a talking to or the Eula needs ammending.

Either way, something is wrong here.

In this post, the writer claims and he has captured the text where it shows what looks like a CSR requesting that the user reply with his station name, keycode and account password.

I remember reading in the Eula that SOE would *Never* ask for a user's password or login.

The user replies with his station name, keycode but omits the password asking ifCSR's aresupposed to ask for a user password.

According to the post, the CSR replies NO, but I need it to fix your problem. According to the poster, he replied that he felt uncomfortable about giving out his password and the alleged CSR tells him than to wait for three hours and then after that, he gets a tell from the CSR saying to try it again.

Nothing is ever mentioned about what the supposed problem is. The information in this post sounds incomplete.

I was in a quandry as to whether I should post the link here and this message or simply report an abuse to the moderator and give him a note that says something is very suspicious about this post, but I decided to post here where questions about the game belong, and where I'm most likely to get the promptest answer to this question, and I have the opportunity of saying the following ....

The player was wise in not divulging his password. If a CSR asks you to tell them your password, do not provide it and remind them that the Eula says that SOE will never ask for your password or account login and since you are asking this of me I must assume that you are not an employee of SOE and therefore are a third party and the Eula forbids me from divulging my login and password to any third party. No respect intended, but I do not wish to risk violating the user agreement by giving you my password info.

By posting here, I also maximize the chances of getting a reply from a true SOE representative such as Tiggs or Thunderhear or others, that may be able to shed some light on this rather dark and mysterious concern that is of great importance to us all!

I'm betting it's bogus. If I were a CSR, I would be watching everything I do as I know every subscriber is just waiting to catch me in something. Not to mention without screen shots or something more "incriminating" than just typing what what said, it really can't be trusted.

I would ABSOULTELY NOT give your password out to ANYONE! I dont' care if they are a CSR, don't give out your password. If the problem is fixable they will tell you how to fix it and you do it yourself but don't give them the password.

They should never, ever need your account name and password. They have tools that let them find those out and to go in and fix things without them.

To all three replies above. Yes, I totally agree!! Like you said, they have the tools, NO rep of SOE should bother to ask for your password because they have the tools to get it already.

I too am betting the whole thing is bogus, but if it is not, than someone has hacked a way to send tells that look like they came from a CSR and that is just a possibilty too dangerous to ignore.

I think the poster was making the whole thing up, but I had enough doubt to be concerned enough to post here and to encourage him to submit a ticket about this instance IF it did indeed occur.

I agree here my friend deffinately contact TH or someone important buddy. It deffinately states in the gamer thingy (I bet only 10% read it ) No SOE representative will ever ask for your password. I have only been asked my password once and that was when I had problems with my account and was e-mailing a technical service person. Plus also another thing to consider is how did his name appear to you. I was contacted once ingame as well with only a message saying "Greetings" by a CSR representative he probably was just going to tell me he replaced some items I asked to have the stats reversed on.

Same thing happened to me. the name was something like lucasCSRwideth or something with CSR in the middle of the name. The tell said: "You have been reported by 5 different players for using profanity. To keep your account from being banned, please reply or email your staion ID and password. We will then use this information to check your logs and verify your innocence. Failure to comply will result in 1 months suspension."

I added the name to my friends list, filed a ticket with a CSR. 5 minutes later I received a reply stating that CSR do not name themselves like that(duh) and theywould look inot it, and never give out my account and password.

Happened to several people last Saturday night I think. All were weaponsmiths as well. Probably somebody trying to scare a weaponsmith into doing it, then robbing the house/vendors later that night.

I would never give out my p/w to anyone, no matter the circumstance. It seems to me that a csr would know better than to ask for one.

General answer that is enough for me:

Under no circumstances = NEVER, give any password to anyone, this goes for PIN codes for phones and cards, too. If an administrator needs your password, something is very wrong. A real admin can always remove or override password, then give you a new one when he/she is ready.

So, Never ever give any passwords to anyone!

An SOE rep will never ask you for your password, they WILL ask if they can change it and give you a new one that you can later change back to your old one. IF you think a REAL CSR did this email [email protected] with the information about the time/date/place.
