I think it would improve server stability, reduce lag, also they act weird and stack on each other all day long...I dont see anything starwarsy about 100 npcs running around doingnothing...

so do you think they should be removed?

I don't think it would hurt to remove a few.

Yes but how starwarsy is empty cantinas especially in Mos Eisley. In some ways I would like to see more if there was a way to do so without increasing lag too much. Kinda like the flora slider to detemine how many non-esential NPCs show up.

If there is already a ton of them than yes. But do keep some for the RP part of the game.

I think they should be removed from high traffic areas, like starport area, if there are already 200 players standing around, no need to have filler.

i think it should be a dynamic NPC spawning thing, depending on how many people are in the area, there would be more or less NPCs running around, say you're the only PC on your map, then there would be whites running all around the place, and something like coronet starport would have onlyperhapsa couple droids running around and that's it....

to have a "npc slider" would mean the npcs would have to be done client-side, which would make thme un-interactable with. say you poked a npc that you saw, someone else wouldnt see that npc, so you would be poking the air.

besides npcs don't cause lag, they cause framerate issues with low-end cards. turn your graphics quality settings down.i personally only have framerate issues with the mose extreme of situations (heavy dogfights inside of nebulae with bloom turned on) but nothing on the ground has ever nicked my framerate since i got my X800XT, exept for when stuff first loads onscreen.

[edit]

however, i think it would be a good idea to fix the areas where there so many npcs in one spot that they stack on eachother and just look silly....

NPC's do cause lag as anyone trapped when they had the super spawning of stormtroupers when the imperial crackdown was 1st introducedwill tell you

Not only do they cause lag, but they clog the database and exponentially increase the traffic sent to the client, sometimes to the point of making people LD.

I say they change the rules for NPCs so they each have their own story, like in Everquest 2. The girl chasing the kitty around town, the disgruntled businesman that needs some dirty work done, the baker who wants you to collect supplies, etc. If there is no reason for a person to be there, then he/she/it should not be there.

Right now, NPCs serve practically no purpose at all, thought there are 3 or 4 that pass this the guideline above.

I've always thought it looked like they were lined up outside the Coronet cantina waiting to get in.

...then again, I've got an old screenshot somewhere of a bunch of them lined up against a tree in Vreni Island and it looks a little bit like mass public urination. The droids that are there make it even more disturbing.
