JoleneArcher brought up something in post that I thought really deserved its own thread. It started with the idea of a screenshot contest where the best pics would become in-game furniture paintings. I thought that was a really cool concept and I wondered why should it stop there?
A number of classic games have had design (MODding) contests for one thing or another over the years, why not do it for SWG? Hold contests where members could submit design concepts for the model of asword ora new piece of furniture, or even a new floor model for a house. On the more extreme end, perhaps dungeon layout? A creature? A starship? A quest? The possibilities are endless here (some are much more bold than others, but could still be done as long as the rules are explicit so as to keep the designs to a point that they look like they belong in the Star Wars Universe. I think it would be a lot of fun and wow.. some of you hardcore complainers for the first time might have something constructive to submit regarding game development

I think the idea is cool, could lead to a lot of interesting new concepts and items to add spice to the game. The only problem is that a lot of things the dev's do have to go through LucasArts, and many items or locations or quests that are player-made would likely have to undergo the same oversight.

That's why I said the rules would have to be very specific - to let everyone know their entries need to look like they're a part of Star Wars (ie nocars for a new vehicle, a duck-billed platypus for a new Dantooine critter, etc.) or they won't be counted. And if Lucasarts has the final say in all the new designs coming across the drawing board then I suppose they'd get the job of judging the entries (SOE could still help filtering out the stuff they (because they've been brainstorming this for years) know what does and doesn't have a chance at being accepted.
