I have a general question about how the ground and space game mix. Obviously, there are the needs for shipwrights and resources that are crafted on the ground, but what about combat and faction?
Right now, there seems to be two groups of players, those in space and those not. I am in space, but I feel very detached from the ground game. I understand that JTL is new and people are flocking to it, so the ground game will suffer for a bit, but I am looking at the bigger picture. I do not see how combat and GCW integrate into space. Maybe I am missing something at the moment, but I do not understand how they go together. I know that the GCW is not much right now, but I would hope that JTL would potentially enhance the GCW in some way.
If anyone can provide some insight here, I would appreciate it.

I think that initially, JTL was designed to be very detached from the ground game. Its a distraction. Here is a fictional transpcript of a conversation between two devs to illustrate my point...
Dev A: Ugh. The players are complaining on the forums.
Dev B: Combat Balance?
Dev A: Yeah.
Dev B: We need a way to keep them occupied until we can come up with a way to fix that...
Dev A: Lets use the next expansion.
Dev B: Yeah! Make a separate new game, so they can all go off and do that while we fix things!!
Dev A: Good idea...lets get to work.
With all of us galavanting off in space, its a lot easier for them to start working on new ways of doing the Combat Balance and stuff like that. If that had been instead of the expansion, we'd have just complained about lack of content, or the GCW, or something else. By giving us a new game, it'll distract us with the "woo, new game" happie that a lot of us have, so that they can start doing things that are going to take a lot of dedication and work to do, like the Combat Balance, for example. If they transfer most of their JTL manpower over to the CB, they'll be able to whiz through stuff, and start chucking loads of new content for us.
JTL is the bowl of food you set down for the dog. Its so it'll leave the old, mangled chew-toy alone long enough for you to fish it out, and get it a nice new one.
And technically, multiplayer ships tie in with the ground game...you walk around, but you're in space.
But in general, its designed to be separate.
I haven't been watching FP though. Do you actually get any?

You get some for the rebel missions. I assume that that the Imps get it too.

There is the GCW in space, but only the deep space sectors. You have to go to an imperial / rebel space station and declair your faction first. Im not exactly sure -how- you reach the deep space sectors either.
