Ok, if you wanted to make EVERYTHING you had from clothes to weapons to pets and vehicles how would you progress?

What I am asking if you had a brand new character and wanted to be completely self sufficient what professions would you need and in what order?

I was thinking starting off as Artisan to Arch. and making all the Arch stuff you need like your house and furniture as well as many extractors, power plants, etc. Then learning BE so you can have the items need to make BE enhanced food and clothing.

There would be a long list of professions you would need to have together and in a certain order.

Has anyone done this or is this just insane?

I have played characters that made just about everything they owned and used... your path is probably a good way to do it, I did Master Artisan and then Master Architect; about the only thing I didn't make was my pistol, my armorand my brandy (and none of them were truly necessary for me).

I think instead of BE (since such items are really optional) from there you'd want to work up Weaponsmith and Armorsmith. After those professions you'd have made your own basic clothing, housing, crafting tools and stations, armor, weapons, and vehicles.

Could be a nice thing to do and even roleplayed..maybe a guild called The Alone or something, social outcasts not liking to interact with others.

Not sure id do it but could happen some day.

If you dont want to be uber and solo everything then it may be possible. To make verhicles you need Master Artisian, to make clothes Master Tailor, to make weapons Master Weaponsmith, to make armor Master Armorsmith. It is unlikely you could master all these with your skill points so you would not be able to make the best weapons, best armor, all the clothes, and you would still have no combat skills.

If you wanted no clothes, and did not mind makeing and using only middle level armor and weapons you will probably have enough skill points to be viable in PvE and blaster-fodder in PvP. But then you want no interaction so PvP is not an option so yes you can be a viable character as long as you pick up Novice Medic and Novice Entertainer to heal your own wounds and Battle Fatigue.

It is nearly impossible to be completely self sufficiant. However if you figure out what you want to do, you can pick up a profession that best augments you chosen path. But no one, can do it all on their own. I am assuming that you want to fight. Since you mentioned needing armor, weapons and food. If you want to be an armorsmith, even for yourself, you will need creature resources that is hunting 4, master armorsmith and your combat profession, skill points should be capped. If you want to make your own weapons, you need survey because weapons require tons of named resources. If you want to make food, you need BE, if you want to make clothes, you need fiberplast and possible tissues, ect. Working ahead stockpiling items for future use sounds good but is difficult, I had no idea the types of changes my character would be making now, 3 months ago. I was expecting to go rifle/swords but got bored with the rifle grind, ended up being a master doctor/swords. If I had chosen to make a ton of weapons for my rifle/swords I would have wasted a bunch of time and money on something that is easy to find, better made than what I just was able to pull together and worth nothing to me now, when I thought I would need it. Some people buy a ton of clothes, me I have bought one set of clothes which cost me about 7k total, why grind tailor when the time it took to find a clothes shop and buy them was about 20 minutes. Same for fighting. I have done swords, TK, pike, fencer, pistols,(I know I should have done rifles) and smuggler, finding a quality weaponsmith isn't difficult, I tried them out found the one I liked and THEN started looking for the best weapons. I guess my ramble is this. To be completely self-sufficiant is not really possible.

Your idea of a guild that is self-sufficiant is far more normal. Even a guild with 5 people in it can be self-sufficent with the right type of planning. As a group you are able to take care of yourself, as individuals you still depend on the rest of the group. It is the way the game was made to be played.

You can nerf my armor, add in 46 new resources, and 12 new steps ... it only makes me stronger. This is how I level.

You can probably train in enough professions to supply all of your needs, but that would leave you with no skill points left for combat skills. I would try something like TKM (for combat), Master Artisan (for vehicles, harvesters and clothes), Novice Architect (for houses), and maybe Master Brawler to compliment your TKM skills. The reason I would suggest TKM is that the Vibro-Knucklers can be bought dirt cheap on the bazaar, which would mean that you can buy them and not feel that you are comprising too much of your independent nature. The only other thing you would need to buy is Armor... and maybe you can work out a "commune" type system where you could trade your vehicles for armor.
