Kind of a wierd post.... But yes... if anyone is running with 512 mb and is getting sick of having to reboot, and getting so much lag you can barly walk, nevertheless run then get a gig. I can actually run a few programs in the backround, while before I had to close everything. It's really a nice addition to make your pc scream!!

I agree, 1g is better than 512mb but there are issues with running the game where the fps jumps drastically from 30 fps down to 1 when walking or looking around at buildings, etc. I'm not the only one having this problem, and so far no fix has been found - as no one is sure what is causing this problem (read the tech forums to see what I mean).

I only have 512mb, and I would upgrade to 1g if I knew it would help. Unfortunately, I know ppl with 1g (or more) and they still have the same issues I have with the game lagging. So, if anyone out there has similar problems and are told to "just upgrade to 1g," make sure it's something you want to do and will be happy with - even if it doesn't take care of the lag problem.

And if anyone wants to offer their help with this...pls check out the tech forum - numerous threads to choose from. You'll see that video cards, drivers, motherboards, RAM, clean reboots, reformatting, reinstalling SWG/JTL, firewalls, anti-virus protection, etc.are not the issues (unless all of us, including the techs are missing something totally obvious).

Windows XP really needs a MIN of 512 megs of ram. 1 Gig really make the computer RUN A LOT BETTER all the way around. Now I can tell you 2 GIg makes it run like a dream, and I am drooling to get 3 gigs. I swear with 2 gigs of ram programs open before I even click on them.. Its amazing

Setting asside a few differences 2gb won't always get you better resaults over 1gb. What generally is more important (once you get to the 1gb mark) is the bandwidth that the memory can achieve. Having low latencies can take you FAR. Alot of benchmarks do better with 1gb then 2gb, not always an idicator of real world resaults but does help create a base line for comparison.

I'm now on my 3rd computer since SWG came out, I have had a chance to play with a few different configs. By all means SWG played better when I upgraded from 1gb pc3200 to 2gb of memory (on my 2nd system = p4 based northwood, 865pe chipset, 9800xt, all overclocked a tad). SWG is a very memory hungry monster.

My new computer has the enzo of memory, x2 512mb Corsair XMS2pro pc5400 rated @ 667mhz. Granted I have also upgraded my cpu by 800mhz and picked up another 512 cache by going with a LGA775 cpu/mobo, however my pci-e vid card is only a mid-range x700pro. The x700pro is just above my 9800xt in some tests, and just below in others. For as ram hungry as SWG is, the 1gb of faster memory moves things very quickly, if not better then my 2gb pc3200. With my new rig, I get much better frame rates. What I don't know is how much of this from the cpu upgrade. IF swg is more gpu and ram intensive I would the say the faster ram is better, even with 1gb vs 2gb. I wish I could remember what I got in SiSsandra on the old rig, so I could compare memory bandwidths

Quick side note. When people say they are runing XXX and rig XXX and it runs fine for them. Fine is a very realitive term. I might be (and most likely am ) x1000 times more picky about image quality, load times, fps, etc. Just like I hear people say, "Huh, the graphics on my PS2 are fine". Err yeah, fine for you, I usually don't touch comments like that with a 10 foot pole.

*edit* I challenge anyone to a loading contest. Whether from launch pad to ingame or ingame from theed to coronet or sum'n. My computer about made me schit myself the first time I loaded up swg and watched how fast I loaded. Granted this also had to do with my Sata II w/NCQ hard disk, but honestly it does not hardly spin during SWG game play, much like when I went from 1<2gb in rig#2. To test cpu/ram I think in game loading would be a better test.

I run 2 machines...One has 512 RAM and the other has 2 GB RAM. The 512 MB machine cant run in Theed or Cnet. The 2 GB machine still has problems with framerate dropping...and still can be a pain
