Each week, Q-3PO started a thread for you to share game tips with fellow players. Tuesday Tips will continue on. Have a little known command you use all the time, a cool place to visit, a trick (non-exploit) to getting more out of the game? Share it here. To get things started:

Re-mapping the Alt Key

This is my favorite tip and it literally changed my gameplay. Re-mapping your ALT key to the Mouse Wheel can be very handy. (If you don’t have a mouse with a mouse wheel, then my second tip is to go get a mouse with a wheel )

1. Open your Options Window (Ctrl-O)

2. Click the “Controls” button on the left of the options window

3. Click the button that says, “Keymap”

4. Press the keymap tab that says “UI”

5. Scroll down until you see the option for “Toggle Mouse Mode” and select it

6. Click the “Rebind” button

7. Click your mousewheel button. You’ll know it worked because it will say “mousebutton2” in the re-bind window.

8. Click “ok”

9. Click the “Apply” button

10. Click “ok” and “Done”

Now, whenever you want to shift between your user interface modes, all you have to do is click your mousewheel.

Check out last week's tips

the first thing i do when i log in is i press my Alt key, because that center screen crap is annoying

do people REALLY play like that?

Exarch - Rebel Soldier, Jumped to Lightspeed too far, far far away into a new World, World of Warcraft, Recruited by the Alliance to fight a similar war in the realm of StormReaver along with the Outkasts of Sunrunner who also found themselves in the same situation. With little hope of return to their Rebel friends they have begun to start again, learning the ways of their new home, trading in their blasters for Axes, Swords and Magical powers. The fight will be difficult, but failiure is unknown to us, for we are the soldiers that struck fear into the Emporer himself and put his armies to shame....

I play in both modes quite a bit... they've each got their uses. The mode where you're view follows your cursor (don't know what the actual name is) is great for moving around (if you use the mouse) and looking around. The other mode is great for crafting or doing things while you want to keep a stationary viewpoint.

Heh, I have my keyboard mapped to EQ style so all I need to do is right click for that. JtL beta screwed with me since that was the first time I started a new char in god knows when and I forgot all the commands for everything was different.

Best command in the game:

/find

You can use that and find the closest starport, shuttleport, bank, bazaar, whatever. Niflty little thing. It can even be used as:

/find starport

That'll automatically create a waypoint to the nearest starport. There's only a few places that some of the things don't work with, like the Bazaar in Theed (I think that's it).

I actually mapped the alt key to the right mouse button and put autorun on the wheel, that is very comfortable in the most situations.

Cool tip, but I've been doing this since release, it's nice to have the toggle mouse mode on the mouse. Can't stand having to press the alt key.

ALT Key Remap = Best Tip Ever

It's the first thing I do when I start a new character (before I'm even off the space station), right before I remap the ctrl-shift-h HUD toggle to pause/break.

If you use a microsoft 5 or 6 button mouse/trackball the button on the far right CAN'T be mapped in SWG...however if you have an older version of Intellipoint you can map the far right button to something like F12 then in SWG you can map F12 to tab targets...then you can tab targets nice and fast...

I just used F12 as an example...map it to something you don't use.

For real. I did this shortly after launch when a player suggested it in one of Q3PO's tuesday tip threads and now I seriously can't play the game without it. I wish it was this way by default.

In an attempt to not have to touch the keyboard ever, I tried reassigning the close window option to button 2 (default 'forward a page' button when dealing with explorer) on my logitech wireless mouse, but it would recognize that button or any others. That's odd, because it recognizes button 3 (back button) and defaults it to auto-run, which I love. Maybe you could put in a word about this?
