Tom' Green

What? His name doesn't have the apostrophe.

lol I don't take it too seriously though, my guy just looked hilariously similar to Tom, so I had to do it. I get a lot of thumbs up from people.

He knew he was as good as gone, but gone was somewhere he really didn't mind going to.
Since his shuttle had crashed, many years had passed, and the pictures of his loved ones that he drew on the walls of the cave
had finally faded.
He put out his smoke, proceeded towards the lake, repeating to himself,
everything beautiful is far away.

LOL, its hard isnt it Riis, everybody wants you to rate your name and such, hehe, thats why I changed it to PMs.

Oh yeah and Riis, I dont know if you interpreted this the wrong way, but I had nothing against you, and I dont claim to be an expert on names either, Im just a SW movie freak (every classic over 250+ viewings, prequel 100+) I dont have any credentials or anything, Im just a fan tellin people what I think. Good job Riis, by doin some names your taking the pressure off me thnx. May not be a good time to promote but....

Here'smy new Rate-A-Name Thread, thanks for particapating.

N'hil Vis

Still trying to work out the fastest way to use this form.

Riis' Star Wars Name quality sheet (subjective as all are)

Your name will be rated on a "Yes" or "No" basis. If there is a specific reason for this that may be helpful to learn, I will detail it's reasons.

I run through a simple yes/no questionnaire when I vet potential names.

Quality

Continuity breaking (copying a Star Wars character)?

No

Continuity breaking (reference to current or recent pop culture)?

No

Continuity breaking (cross-genre or inappropriate intra-genre words)?

Maybe. N'hil did ring that bell that you intended to ring...I was thinking the root Nihil. Is it Star Wars? Likely not. Does it matter in this case? Again, likely not.

Phonetic version of same above?

No

Intended humourous but too obvious?

No

Intended dangerous or capable but too forced?

Yeah, I have to say you seem to be trying to sound cool here. Since this is a name you ported over, and tried to Starwarsify it, I give you credit for that.

Species Appropriate

Continuity breaking (name does not fit established name guidelines)?

No...Well, what do we know about the Zabrak? Not much, so you get away with this name.

Fit of name for species?

See above.

Potential for species confusion?

See above.

Bonus points!

Euphonious?

Sorry, no, it trips, and that is saying something, since English speaking ears are tuned to Latinate sounds.

Intended to stretch genre?

Not really, you are trying to keep a familiar name from another genre (not a bad thing, but not Star Wars).

Original to style?

No.

Pronounceable?

Yes.

Centered on global culture and not Western?

Yes.

Player backstory intended fit into genre?

Yes?

Quality

Continuity breaking (copying a Star Wars character)?

No.

Continuity breaking (reference to current or recent pop culture)?

No. But I get a weird feeling from it...like the ol band Man O' War.

Continuity breaking (cross-genre or inappropriate intra-genre words)?

No.

Phonetic version of same above?

No.

Intended humourous but too obvious?

No.

Intended dangerous or capable but too forced?

No.

Species Appropriate

Continuity breaking (name does not fit established name guidelines)?

No.

Fit of name for species?

No and Yes. Again, try to imagine Chewbacca saying "Krannowark." Likely I would call this a Basicification of the actual Wookiee name.

Potential for species confusion?

No. You're safe there, I thought Wookiee when I saw it.

Bonus points!

Euphonious?

Sure. It does ring.

Intended to stretch genre?

Maybe. Maybe not.

Original to style?

Yes. Hadn't seen too much of this.

Pronounceable?

Yes.

Centered on global culture and not Western?

Sure.

Player backstory intended fit into genre?

Probably.

Nyctasia Ravenwood

Quality

Continuity breaking (copying a Star Wars character)?

No

Continuity breaking (reference to current or recent pop culture)?

No

Continuity breaking (cross-genre or inappropriate intra-genre words)?

Yes.The name, well, I get two things from it...fantasy heroine, Yes, and also remember Marian? From "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark"?What was her name? Say it with me: Ravenwood.

Phonetic version of same above?

No.

Intended humourous but too obvious?

No.

Intended dangerous or capable but too forced?

Maybe. Though you know, Nycastia is a real name, but Nyctasia sounds so much nicer.

Species Appropriate

Continuity breaking (name does not fit established name guidelines)?

No.

Fit of name for species?

Yes. Again the two word fusion that is our Anglo-Saxon heritage, or, if you like, our Core World heritage.

Potential for species confusion?

Naw, you be a human, mon...I hope?

Bonus points!

Euphonious?

Yes. Everyone saw that name out loud. Nyctasia. Ravenwood. Two stops in there and it sounds so nice. It's like a sentence being spoken.

Intended to stretch genre?

Surely.

Original to style?

Yep. Except that Marian Ravenwood from Indiana Jones thing.

Pronounceable?

Yep.

Centered on global culture and not Western?

Yep.

Player backstory intended fit into genre?

Yep.

Dreigo(dray-go)

Rodian bounty hunter. I usually use the full name 'Dreigo Pike' in different games for shady, mercenary or roguetype characters. I like the way it sounds but I'm not sure if I spelled it right for the sound. I like its appruptness and roughness. I dropped the Pike because it felt wrong for a rodian.

Shamera Kye, Aza Mwasa, Fifi Houyhnhnm

The family that plays together, stays together, eh? Watch your color for yourcomments...

Quality

Continuity breaking (copying a Star Wars character)?

All is well.

Continuity breaking (reference to current or recent pop culture)?

Fine.

Continuity breaking (cross-genre or inappropriate intra-genre words)?

Fine...though, uh, Fifi? hehe.

Phonetic version of same above?

Fine.

Intended humourous but too obvious?

The Fifi one made me chuckle without it hurting my eyes. So you barely made it in my opinion.

Intended dangerous or capable but too forced?

You guys seem fine.

Species Appropriate

Continuity breaking (name does not fit established name guidelines)?

Fifi's name looks like the last name came from the SWG name generator. How I despise that thing.

Fit of name for species?

Fifi likely got her last name changed from her Bothan Clan Name, which would have normally a constuction of AB'CDE or ABC'DE in form.

Potential for species confusion?

No, but racial confusion, yes. See below.

Bonus points!

Euphonious?

Ok, everyone say Shamera Kye! Wow! Nicely flowed. Aza Mwasa, is also nice, with it's strong, very strong ethnic flavor. Fifi, well, that last name...how DO you pronounce it?

Intended to stretch genre?

Yes, if you consider actually introducing African names to the mix stretching. I consider it too little, too late.

Original to style?

Sure.

Pronounceable?

Except Fifi's last name.

Centered on global culture and not Western?

Whew! Aza Mwasa? Have you folks any sort of Bantu or Swahili background? I can't place it, but boy is it Central or East African. I actually just sent an email off to a friend to find out where I heard the words Aza and Mwasa before in an African context. You stopped me in my tracks. Unfortunately, the continuity lacks this sort of flavor, so it is shaky ground you trod upon.

Player backstory intended fit into genre?

Gosh, I would love to hear it. For all three of you.

Venis

As in, THE Venus? Well, let's talk....

Quality

Continuity breaking (copying a Star Wars character)?

no.

Continuity breaking (reference to current or recent pop culture)?

maybe...Greek mythology (even in sound) is risky whenever applied to any other place. I see this here.

Continuity breaking (cross-genre or inappropriate intra-genre words)?

No.

Phonetic version of same above?

Yes, if we consider your name a different phonetic spelling of Venus.

Intended humourous but too obvious?

Maybe?

Intended dangerous or capable but too forced?

no. Unless you are a woman in scanty clothing, then I would cry foul.

Species Appropriate

Continuity breaking (name does not fit established name guidelines)?

If human, not really, no.

Fit of name for species?

See above.

Potential for species confusion?

See above if not human.

Bonus points!

Euphonious?

Well, she IS the goddess of love. That is your curse and your boon.

Intended to stretch genre?

I don't think so.

Original to style?

No, sorry.

Pronounceable?

yes.

Centered on global culture and not Western?

Maybe.

Player backstory intended fit into genre?

??

This is a name I would want to work with someone and solve.

Ok for a few again you get the high points of your name issues hit:

Antanh LeMacri

Issues? Only the obvious French last name. What planet was he from? Better write a very Gaulic backstory for that one! The first name is nice.

Barium Khazad

An element anda place orcs live now. Hmm. Needs a lot of work. And I mean this nicely, but firmly.

Ihy Caerve

I Carve? Is that your intent? If so, I'm sorry, but very forced. If not, well, that's what I get out of it!

Balance

Hmm didn't we meet in Earth and Beyond? At any rate, it's a name that is obviously a nickname, and must be roleplayed well to succeed, otherwise, it's trying to be too cool.

Falkrynn Sindar

Falcon and ....uh, you DIDN'T just try and slip TOLKIEN in here! Out Out! (seriously, Tolkien is a big, big no no in my book anywhere but in Tolkien where it belongs, and yes, I know enough Elvish (Sindarin) to get by...

Bowykam

Try to Wookiee roar it...maybe, maybe. It is not terrible, and would represent a Basicification of a more complex Wookiee name.

Tom' Green

No.

Lecim Barkar

Yes, and the last name would work nice for a merchant.

Khayembii Quixodia

As in Khayembii Communique? Hmm, not really the best choice. And Quixodia, a Spanish/Latin word feel. May want to try and be the Don, but not be so obvious about your windmill tilting desires.

Drakk'ar Machina

Drakkar Noir smells nice. Machina? You should be an auto mechanic with that moniker, or a DE. I'm afraid you should go back to the boards on this one.

Alzba Dehel

Not at all euphonious, but your heart is in the right place. Some options: Alsba, Alzuba, Elszba.

Dreigo

A fine Rodian name. But it looks Spanish.

Lance Hunter

Whoa. Now this is an action hero name if I ever saw one. IF you can pull off this name, I want your autograph. MAN, you have picked a just about impossible name to wear if you screw up

If you wish further commentary on your name drop me a line.

DidI get everybody? No name left behind!
