So this works inbetween servers of SWG too, right? And is there a way to add these people from different servers and/or games to your friends list?
Yup. Just do /addfriend server.charactername. Bear in mind if they are on a euro server you have do to europe-euroservername.charactername.
Yeah
To remove them, you have to command line it too. Removing them from the GUI doesn't work.

Doesnt seem to work with EQ1, unless I'm typing something wrong I cant send tells to EQ1 servers.
I'd imagine for EQ1 it'd just be /tell EQ.servername.charactername
I just added my sister and her husband's EQ2 characters to my friends list, now I'll know when to go log on over there
Nice find!

Next question. Anyone gotten cross game chat channels to work? We had EQ1 people joining an EQ2 chat channel perfectly tonight, but us SWG folks couldn't get in. It "should" be /chatroom join EQ2.servername.channelname but that gave no feedback, good or bad and didn't add us to the channel.
Tells are sweet, but cross game guildchat, would rule. That would be a huge selling point for EQ2 over WoW IMHO

Interesting concept, but aren't there Instant Messenger products galore to do such things? Although I ma going to tease some friends who left SWG who have subsequently moved on via City Of Heroes, WOW Beta, Matrix Beta and who are now moving to EQ2. Incidentely the 'stats' that can be made avaialable via the EQ2 website look awesome. SWG should have something like that in future (it'd be a like SWG ESPN channel!). But, might I add, AFTER the game has been sorted out.

Acting on a hunch, I discovered that /tells work cross game. From SWG you can /tell EQ2.Server.Player with a message, and from EQ2 you can /tell SWG.Server.Player with a message.http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=faq&message.id=12acting on a hunch or just on published info??? lol
Acting on a hunch. That was barely before my thread and I hadn't even read it yet. I was using it long before I posted this.
Chat channels I've had mixxed luck with. SWG I've not gotten even cross server chat channels working for a long time. In EQ2 I was able to get on a SWG chat channel yesterday just fine, but the day before it didn't work; I could talk to them but I didn't see anything.
In SWG I could add EQ2 players to my friends list, but in EQ2 I couldn't add SWG players to my friends list. (It truncated the name.)
An no, /findfriend won't work. It doesn't even work cross-server. Despite using the friends list, it isn't part of the chat server like everything else is.
I don't have an active EQ account to test anything with.

If you're getting an error trying to talk to someone on EQLive (Game name is just EQ for the chat server) that probably just means they aren't online.
Yes, there are IMs, but not everyone is able to use them while playing.

does anyone realise that this is nothing more than a sony marketing tactic? what better way to get you tobuy eq2, than to have friends sending you tells while they are playing it.
