I had 256 RAM AND O MY GOD IT WAS HELL

Then I upgraded to 512 it was ok but after visiting coronet or any other populated city a couple of times the performance really got bad

Then I finally got 1024 and can finally play without frustration. Still has its times when it slows down but anything lower than 1024 is frustrating

Just a small comment.

I've actually encountered several program that simply refused to run, if the "virtual memory" in windows is disabled - even if there were more than plenty of RAM for the program to run...

Oh well, I keep my page file at a static size on it's own partition (wouldn't mind a small fast HD dedicated to it though, hehe).
Keeps the hassle to a minimum.

Hearing that makes me thing that the coding is so bad in the program that its not worth using. The fact that a program would require you to have virtual memory boggles my mind.

I have been experiencing trouble with lagging since the release of JTL. I currently have 512 mb ram and am wondering if upgrading to 1GB would help with the problem.
My processor is uber and i run a dsl internet connection so those issues are not relavant.
Any replies would be appreciated.

Doesn't matter if you have a FTL nanoprocessor, if you only have 512 megs of RAM you will get lag in cities and elsewhere. This game will assimilate all your memory and still want more. Upgrade to at least 1 gig of RAM, more if you run multiple instances like I do. And then rename your computer to SOE's Slave and start sacrificing blank DVDs every sunday for them. Then you will see a great improvement in game play. And alot less time waiting when loading a new city or planet.

Those with post pub 11 lag, check to options under launchpad and check the pixel shader. I got unplayable lag after pub 11 with blocky and more cartoonish looking graphics. I then adjusted pixel shader from 2.0 to 1.4 overide and it went back to normal. 30 FPS average and smooth most of the time again and it's all normal.

I am not saying this will fix all, but I still talk to alot of people having this problem and fix it doing this.

I have 1GB of ram, 3.4 P4 HT, 5300 Geforce and ever since pub 11 I have a considerable amount of lag. Before all this JTL crap, gameplay, even in Corolag, was seamless. Now, it is laggy again. Guess Ill just go for 2GB.

Something's wrong here. I run a 1.6 P4, 1 GB ram and a GeForce2 card (2 years old) and have close to no lag. I lag very slightly when I exit the Coronet spaceport, etc. How come this guy who is running the latest retail gear has problems? By the way I have all graphic options cranked up except for shadows. My only upgrade is the RAM.

I've read over and over about people running crazy gear but getting poor performance. My Dell Dimension 4400 is more than 2 years old and I glide through everything with options cranked.Space is wonderful.

No i used to get flawles performance with the graphics turned way up, but now after the most recent publish, my performance has been a little bit laggy. I may just have to disable some of the graphics, im just reluctant to because it worked fine before. It may just be my server, the average ping on my server is well over 300. Not sure, but maybe your just lucky.

Jabegea, your machine rocks. I would check your settings at the login screen ANDyour settings once in the game. Something's screwy. I'm post Pub 11 and have not a single issue.

To stay on topic. I upgraded from 512 to 1GB and noticed a world of difference.

I just made a similiar post, a Gig is going to make your pc scream. Believe it or not I ran SWG with less than 512 when it first was realeased. When I got a new pc with 512 it was awsome!! I got tired though eventually after about 3 months of waiting to load in shuttles. Now with a gig I load from any city/planet in seconds. If I burst run though coronet I don't get lag spikes, and it's like running in real time. It's the best upgrade for your PC.

I dont get it either, check this. My wife and i have same systems, 2.4Ghz, with 512 ram. I have a 128ddr vram and she has 64ddr vram, i have lag, tons of it. Right now with JTL takes me over 7 min to load in moenia with all the trafic there. She can run 2 apps and still spawn in less than 5. I have a fresh install of XP pro and she has 3mo's of XP pro. Ive tried everything, ive shut down several services in XP and now im to the point where im gonna go get another stik of 512.
