Thread: Tired of getting stopped by troopers

Frankly, as a member of the US's prodigious military, I can understand why the troopers act the way they do. On patrol everyone must be stopped and verified. However, I also agree that the overt Imperials shouldn't be stopped as much and that any Reb, especially overt, should be given nine kinds of heck.
And while I, too, have noticed Imperials helping n00bs a lot more than Rebels, the reason I started my Imperial career was because I'm an evil s.o.b.
Those are my two cents, spend 'em how you want to.

You see? I knew once Imperials came on they would make more sense of this.
Hey Maba_Cheonouni, so you're an evil sob?Made me laugh.

if you are overt and wearing factional armor they shouldn't stop you... otherwise you're fair game, shouldn't they make sure you're not a reb trying to...? well, you know, any of the dirty things rebels do
as for recognizing you while you bike by... I'm sure you are important, but not that important, right? I bet you're not even a general yet... they can't possibly recognize every imp colonel they meet by just looking at his composite helmet - they are just your regular troopers and not very smart...

Something like that.
But on a serious note I just don't like it thats it and those that don't mind, well thats you. Those are15, 30 or even 5 seconds of my time that I don't want to spend on this nonsense. I just get back on the bike and take off but deep down how I wish I could wipe out the troopers. But there's just no way I'd become a Rebel, no way. I see the way they are, Imperials on contrast are helpful with others. It's the reason I went Imperial even though in the begining I was leaning Rebel.
I remember as a noob I couldn't get any help from any rebel when I first started out some 15 months back. But I saw the unity in the Imperials and hence, I am an Imperial of high rank today, rank I've gotten off of many dead rebels.
Moral of this story boys and girls is: I hate those damn troopers when they stop me but, I wouldn't trade them for a rebel unless of course it was a rebel as a corpse.

I don't mind them stropping me and knocking me off my bike.
What I hate is they always figure out I'm a rebel and make me overt. In my opinion we should only be flagged for those stops not forced overt. The overt status usually causes me a later death when I'm traveling....

Finally, I would think it was obvious why more imperials get searched than rebels. Imperials hang around in Stormtrooper-heavy cities because, well, that's proper. Rebels, being proper rebels, can't afford to be searched every 5 minutes because the consequences are much more dire and there are general RP reasons why a Rebel wouldn't live in Bestine during a crackdown. I usually end my searches in a firefight and, if I'm in the middle of the town, there's a chance I won't make it out of town before they overcome me. So, simply because Rebels make efforts to avoid getting searched (I duck into buildings if Stormtroopers walk by), they succeed in getting searched less often, and imperials don't avoid it, because they have no reason to, so they get searched.

You're making a peculiar generalization here, since I don't recall anywhere when signing up for a faction neither recruiter says, "Be sure to help newbies," or "Let the n00bs rot!" when you join a side. When I started the game, I was leaning Imperial and went Rebel because of the exact same reason you turned imperial. Well, and being a Rodian made the rebel way of life much more comfortable. I've seen the imperial perspective, looking over my brother's shoulder at his guild functions, and I know there's no purple pill you guys swallow that makes imperials better people than rebels. They're the same people. I'm convinced there's just as much bad blood on both sides of the conflict because this is a game and we're not "participating" in the GCW for the same reasons that a character under these circumstances might react. Primarily because we know we'll respawn if we die in a game and, barring certain religious beliefs, people don't believe that in real life.

Just attack them. Even if your rebel they won't even declare you overt, you'll just get a normal 5 minute TEF.

It's gotten to the point I have to kill them all - if I let them scan me, I'm screwed cause I've never even been able to go covert by waiting a damned hour.

Heh... Imps constantly scold Rebels for whining about things that require a little self-discipline... like defending bases during "hot" phases. Good to see that human nature hasn't been repealed by the adoption of an Imperial hat.
[Iakimo puts on his Crotchety Imperial Retiree's Role-Playing hat, types /soapbox self, and rants:]
Soldier, you should be ashamed of your attitude. Why, all law-abiding citizens know thatwe should be grateful for the vigilance of our Troopers In White. The diligence of the Empire's Finest should be taken as an encoraging bit of evidence of their vigilance in protecting our freedoms. It lets us all know that they are on the job and actively searching for the Rebel Terrorist Menace. After all, you clearly have nothing to fear from these searches, being a loyal Imperial subject... right??
I can relate to what you are saying about the inconvenience of being stopped for random searches and verifications of your identity. Perhaps, though, you might wish to consider the alternative: Being impressed into front-line duty to repel an attack that, because the local Imperial garrison was not working to pre-empt them, was instead a reality. Which would be the greater inconvenience: Pausing fora second or two in your busy schedule, or dropping your busy schedule entirely because you'd been called into emergency active duty? Or, perhaps you'd like a stint as, say, a guard at the Imperial Prison on Dathomir...?
Bah! Kids these days....
[Iakimo steps down, quietly slips off his Crotchety Imp Vet's hat, types /deepbow, smiles, and strolls whistling away....]

Yep, just hope the lag ain't so bad by the time your avatar's figured out you've been spamming your attack of choice for the last 3 minutes, the ST's already declared you overt and gone for backup. That happened to me once... I wasn't happy.
Was roaming down the streets of Lagsville looking for T-shirts and this irritated stormtrooper comes up and reaches into my pockets for... stuff.
*Hides from all the imperials about to call him a whiny rebel* Not that I'm complaining... My problem, I got it.

I can't believe someone is complaining about one of the few things that make this game actually feel like Star Wars. When Crackdown was added, I thought it was a step in the right direction. Not far enough, but a good step nonetheless.
Let's put this into perspective. As a rebel merchant/crafter, I have no attack/defense ability. When I get searched, it's all over but the crying. I'm incapped, and sometimes DB'd. Stormtroopers surround my shop on a regular basis because I sell only rebel starships. This has impacted my business, not to mention made it tricky for me to enter and exit my own house.
I absolutely love it, and I'm not being sarcastic. There needs to be more immersion in the Star Wars universe like this, not less.
But, you know, I'm all for contextual solutions too. One solution might be a very high faction expenditure for "Notoriety". It would probably be more than an ATST expenditure to fit context. This would give you immunity to searches as you're widely recognized. Better yet would be an Imperial only mission that gave Notoriety as a reward.
