I used the CD to install. It said that you have to have DirectX 9.0c (also on the CD) to run the game.

This is not 100% correct, your space zones will not draw correctly in most cases, although you can play via just downloading it. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED That you fully install JTL from the Disks.

So what you are saying is, if you download the updates through the Launchpad instead of using the JtL CD, the space zones won't draw correctly? Don't you think that's an issue that SOE should be looking into?

Why would the devs look into this. If your running files that should have been updated using a CD and your doing something that wasnt meant to be, I would say the problem is on your end not theirs.

If JTL was a downloadable expansion (or if it ever becomes one) yes.

What's "not meant to be"? The question was pretty straightforward: We're not talking about trying to run JtL using Beta files in case you're unclear. We are talking about the fact that the instructions on the Launchpad say nothing about using the CD; that if you don't there is an enormous download; and if you do it's only a very small download.

Which leads to the question: If the CD is an absolute requirement, why is it omitted from the instructions on the launchpad? And what was the 150 MB+ we downloaded already last week? And why is there enormous download when not using the CD, since it's clear that some of those files must be on the CD?

You don't even know "what I was doing", let alone whether or not it was "meant to be". Until you understand the nature of the question, could you kindly leave it for SOE to address?

if this is true can someone please make an offical announcement about it. otherwise people are going to be using a game that isnt working properly. this will only end in complaints and stop people buying JtL.

just trying to help us get the game working properly

That's exactly what I'm doing, but I wonder if installing the CD will save those on dial-up any time? Can anyone confirm/deny?

I'm on Dialup, I installed the CD. I had a 2 hour download of a patch it tried to get even before I installed the CD. Not sure what to think of that though.
