to be honest i have to agree with you here. i thought it was pretty cool to get a reward but then i read your post and said.. hmm.. you're right. you only get a reward if you givethem more business first.

a real reward would be the freeholocron from last christmas (two if you were lucky like me ), the free pieces of art, the free ship paintings. those were given out for being a subscriber for x months. the ship is not.
