Thread: Star Wars Names: The Name Doctor is IN!
An element anda place orcs live now. Hmm. Needs a lot of work. And I mean this nicely, but firmly.
Actually, Khazad just means dwarf (Khazad Dûm = Dwarrowdelf) So an element and a dwarf in dwarven tongue... =)
Anyway, What about:
Ern Stechra Coruscant born imperial officer.human naturally.
I did pick the name to transmit a certain feel about the character but still staying Star Warsish.
Aiko Veyarsix - Flurry - TK
Doko Odo - Chilastra - Artisan/Marksman

What the heck, I'll give it a try:
Kalabakk
Male Wookiee, Master Artisan, Novice Architect, Novice Merchant
Well, I reviewed something like twenty names yesterday and they never posted, so I will rereview, but they will not be as detailed. I apologize. As always, if you want to talk a little more about your name, just say so and we will.
Cotak'do - Twi'lek Combat Medic
This name seems fine, if you like Kodaks
Just kidding, seems ok for a one name.
Auria Oipea - Zabrak Brawler
Does she listen well? This name seems fine as well.
Corbane - Bothan Musican
Obviously named by humans. If you wanted to Bothanize it, it wouldn't be too difficult... Cor is a good first name. Or even Corb'ane
Trobacca - Wookie Scout
Reminds me of my beta Wookiee named "Throbacca" hehe, I've been thinking hard about what sounds a Wookiee can make, and think that this one would be fine.
Tipe O'Abef - Twi'lek Smuggler
I like that first name, easy to type. The last name makes me want to order a green beer from him. It's too, well, Irish. Adding just about any letter would help here: Og'Abef, Om'Abef, Oc'Abef...
Drelan Frond - Human Droid Engineer
Nice name, and with that last name, I would hope he does gardening in his spare time. All around, ok.
Weezacca
Poor dog. ![]()
k-hole-p Yefer
Hmm, this should be a good spot to mention my dislike for lower cases in name beginnings (my name having a very good reason for it). Also, not liking the phrase your name says. ![]()
Desmond and Darin Algood
My first thought was "The Osmands." With a name like Algood, I expect two Howdy Doody types to be running around being nice to Old Lady Leery, or something. The name is fine, and definitely establishes a lot about your character in my mind -- which may not be a good thing.
Garett Jax
I've always like the name Garrett, in all of it's forms. It travels well in every genre AND has the advantage of not being immediately recognizable as being from ANY genre. It's one of my favorite names for this reason. Jax is also a great name. All in all, a fine fine name, and sounds great too when spoken aloud.
Kaff'Ka Redut
I do not dare go against the wishes of such a august website. In fact, youhave given me something to read while I am shuttling now. So of COURSE you name is fine, BUT, Kafka? Are you going to change intoa cockroach? I keep getting images of two men walking across a giant lens with an eye on it (fun, fun movie!).
Lacolo Basema - Mon Calamari
A good name in general, but we need to remember that Mon Cals have single names.
Morti Kahn
This name would be a great human name. Maybe ONE of those would work on a Bothan, with modification, but both together looks too human. I was thinking Morti K'ahn or some such...Morti Ka'ahn, Morti Kv'Ahn, hmm...
Cryostatic Simulacrum
Unfortunately, no. Not only is this not a name, this reminds me of the atrocity which is "cloneing" in this game. While I think of it as bacta immersion, I still can't get away from it. Suggestion to you is to pick a name, not a description. ![]()
"Quick question. You mention Chewbacca or other Wookies having problems pronouncing the S and other letters in a name. I never recall Chewie even pronouncing his own name in manners we're discussing. It's all howl and growl."
No culture would use names that they couldn't say. The purpose of a name is be able to label and communicate a label for a person. If you couldn't say that label, it would serve little purpose. I maintain that the Wookiee names we see are actual Wookiees' names for themselves, therefore, they should be able to pronounce them.
Raz Szaebin
Very nice name with an Eastern European flavor that isn't too overt to the untrained eye. I should email my Hungarian friend Raz and tell him he lives in Star Wars Galaxies now. ![]()
Tichiir
Looks like some of my students' spelling of my profession "Teacher."
If a Wookiee could say it, and I only have doubts about 'ch', then it will work for me.
Empodojayus
Well, if you say he was named after a non-Wookiee....but I am curious about this fine backstory, was this in the literature, or did you create it yourself?
Aelstrom Mantori
Ah, (M)Aelstrom Mantori. Well, you picked a cool word as your first name, and your last name is VERY Romance language (like Italian). If we could reduce the last name's Italian flavor, and make the classical "maelstrom" word a little less obvious, we would be on the way to an excellent name. I'll call you Charybdis for now.
Kapben Mi'sau
Hmm, an...ok...Bothan name, but I was just thinking how much cooler it would sound as "Kap Mi'sau," though people would then want to kill your pig. ![]()
Reawwrtr
Say it three times fast! I think if a Wookiee could say it, there is no problems.
OK, this is a hell of a list, so I'll stop here. Yes, I know there is still names in the hopper, and I will get to them presently. ![]()
Thanks for all who are taking my advice to heart, and to the rest of you, remember, my advice is like free medical advice from a doctor: "You get what you pay for." ![]()
RbT
Max-Madius Capitanos
A human Male. I know its not that star-warsy, just didn't have the imagination to come up with a better one

As you may already know, the Indo-European languages in the main lack certain possible sounds with any frequency, which to someone like me is a crime. Some of these sounds are Ml, Mr, Vr, Mp, Pm, Pv, etc.
Mr, Ml and Vrconstructions are perfectly legal in some Slavic laguages. Let me think if I can come up with some examples...
I believe the word mrav would mean an ant in south slavic languages. And milk would be spelled as mleko, mljeko, or mlijeko, depending on whom you ask (different dialects). Time, if I'm not mistaken (and I easily could be)is translated as vreme, vrjeme, or vrijeme (again, different dialects).
As far as the rest of them are concerned, I cannot think of any 'legal' examples. Pv does sound like a valid Chek or Polish construction though.
All that aside, I'd really like to hear your take on my main character's name:
Eclipse Draco
Human female, doctor/cm/pistoleer
I truly admire what is being done here. It is fun and at least half-heartedly informative. However, the comparison of Star Wars names and any known derivations of earthly languages (either Eastern OR Western) has absolutely NO place here. Telling a player that his/her name is "too Irish" is preposterous, seeing as how there is no "Ireland" in Star Wars against which to compare anything. The same goes for every other earthly language/culture family.
The only problem I have is with unimaginative/derivative names; notice how every two of three wookiees sprt a name ending on "bacca" (or some similar phoneme)?
Ugh.
Nice effort, but take off your linguist's cap for a while.
