Each week, Q-3PO started a thread for you to share game tips with fellow players. Tuesday Tips will continue on. Have a little known command you use all the time, a cool place to visit, a trick (non-exploit) to getting more out of the game? Share it here. To get things started:

Adding color to your SWG Bio

Here is a great tip not only for adding color to your SWG biography, but also enable your ability to have "cut-and-paste" in-game for use with your notepad and other sorts of things.

To add color to your SWG bio, the first thing you have to do is enable your cut-n-paste commands. The second thing you have to do is add the HTML color tag to your bio outside of the game and then paste the whole thing in your Character Sheet. Here's the step-by-step:

1. Enable your Cut-N-Paste Commands

  • Press CTRL-O to bring up your Options window

  • Press the "Controls" button in the Option window

  • Press the "Keymap" button on the Controls

  • Click the Tab that says "Chat"

  • Under the chat tab, there are three commands that you will want to bind:

Chat Edit Copy

Chat Edit Cut

Chat Edit Paste

· One at a time:

o Select the item in the list by clicking on it with your mouse

o Click the "Rebind" button

o Press the keys you want to use to assign to the button. A good selection to use for these commands is:

§ Chat Edit Copy: CTRL+SHIFT+C

§ Chat Edit Cut: CTRL+SHIFT+X

§ Chat Edit Paste: CTRL+SHIFT+V

o Click "Ok"

o Click "Apply"

Now you are done with the first part. What you have done is enable your cut-n-paste commands. Next is actually changing your bio.

2. Changing the color in your SWG Bio:

· Open up your Character Sheet Bio by Pressing "CTRL-P"

· Next, click on the "Character" Tab.

· Select your bio text with the mouse and press CTRL+SHIFT+C (This puts the text on your windows clipboard).

· Once you have done that, press ALT-TAB and minimize your game.

· Load up a text editing program such as Notepad, Wordpad or Text Pad.

· To change the colors of the text, use the following command:

\#FF1234\This is my bio text....

Reference any HTML color list to select from a wide variety of colors.

· Once your have chosen a color and completed your SWG bio in the text editor, you need to send it to your clipboard. Press CTRL-A (to select all the text) and then CTRL-C to copy the text to the clipboard.

· Press ALT-Tab and open up your game window.

· Put the mouse in your character sheet bio window (make sure you see the cursor)

· Click CTRL+SHIFT+V (or whatever you assigned as your Chat Edit Paste command

Then click "Done" to save the data. Type CTRL+1 to select your character and type /examine to view your own bio in all of the colors you wanted.

VOILA! A bio with color.

First 1st ever!

And as long as I have the attention of the 1-star ninja, I'd like to point out a few things:

  1. The CTRL+1 and /ex combo only works on yourself once per load; you have to shuttle someplace else to see it again once you've done it once. Any chance of getting that fixed?

  2. Any chance you guys will ever move the bio to the top of the /ex character window, or suppress badge display? Or at least make it optional, perhaps on a badge-by-badge basis? A character who's been playing long enough (been to all the POI's or who hologrinded through every prof trying to unlock) creates a pretty long list of badge clutter. I'd like to see a greater emphasis placed on the bio.

Otherwise an excellent tip, TH. We need to see more colorful & detailed bios out there.

TH,

If you read this, could you direct your or one of your very helpful devs attention to my post in the pilots forum? I'm completely gated and no idea how to get around it.

Good tip btw

You can also just start typing in theCharacter Sheetlike this-

  • \#FF0000\This is my bio and now it will be in red

The "\FF0000\" will not be visible but all text following the HEX code will show up as red.

hot tip to get around the travel bug in the starship terminal:

open the regular travel terminal then close it with the ESC key. now you can use the starship travel terminal. this lets you bypass the bug that defaults your travel location to tatooine.

Here are some JTL tips, sorry if I am repeating, I haven't read everyone else's:

1) I recommend picking up the starship component box as the first skill at each level. This way, you can use better equipment quicker. The new ship may be really cool, but if you can't load it up with the best stuff, you're not much better than you were before.

2) Astro Droids can be tricky to figure out. First, you need a droid with data modules. Second, you have to get memory chips. Then, program each chip, upload it to your datapad, open the astro droid and drag the chip from your datapad into the droid. Then, when you get to space, open CTRL-A, and drag the commands to you hotkeys.

3) Always be careful with your ship mass and reactor drain of components. You might find a great blaster, but if it takes too much energy, you'll have to sacrifice your shields or some other component just to use it. I recommend trying to remain balanced until you get the hang of the game.

4) Learn how to roll the ship left and right. This can make pursuing ships much easier. Typically, its easier to keep leading a ship if you are only have to move up or down, or left or right instead of diagonally.

5) Figure out at what speed your ship turns the best. Example: A Y-Wing cannot turn well at all at full speed or at low speeds. Somewhere in the middle is ideal.

Have fun.

Jai-Qon, you're supposed to be able to travel to any starport from any other starport if you own your own ship. One of the last builds of beta introduced a bug in which the starship terminal always thinks you're on Tatooine, severely limiting travel options. That workaround is going to be VERY useful. Five stars!

He is refering to the lil bug that if you use the ship terminal to travel it defaults to the tatooine map and thus only locations you can reach from the tatooine space lanes

now while this can be useful from say dantooine or dathomir if you want to go to Lok since you dont have to make the jumps inbetween, it can be a real anoyance if you are on corellia and want to go to dath or dant,

so hit the normal ticket purchasing terminal first, it seems to update your client as to what planet you are on, that way when you go to the travel screen off the spaceship terminal it will show you as on the planet you are on not on tatooine
