I haven't seen any posts on the personal travel system yet, or any guides. I did find an anomoly that I considered quite peculiar and may just be a bug.
I was in Bestine, Tattooine, where my ships are at. I bought a part on the bazaar that I had to go to Dantooine Imperial Outpost to retrieve. I wanted to use my Veteran Yacht to go and get it and come back. For my experience doing this, and learning while doing so, its is completely unbalanced. It took many many clicks and hyperjumps and journeys to get there, and a couple clicks to get back home.
When I brought up the travel system, it brought up a map of tatooine, which I thought was stupid because using my own ship to get from one city to another is overkill. I could not fly directly to Dantooine because it did not give me that option in the planet listing. So, I went to Coronet first and had to land because the map, again would not let me hyperjump to Dantooine from the space dock. It does not come up as a choice. Once I was in the Coronet starport, I selected "travel" once again and I could select Dantooine system. When I got there I tried to find a place to dock and any faction aligned space dock will not allow a passenger ship to dock there so you must fly to one that is non-factioned (non-military). Once I got there I was allowed to land at the mining outpost. When I checked the wp of the item I bought it had some strange name for the location, which I assume is the internal zone name. But on the map it was the Imperial Outpost. the commercial shuttle had just left so I decided to "swoop" it over the 6km to pick it up. I retrieved my item and shuttled back to the mining outpost cause I knew that's where I left my Sorusuub Yacht. When I opened the starship travel machine, it first came up to the map of tatooine! wow! must be a bug! I selected Bestine on the map and seconds later I was in the Bestine starport.
Ok, if I was able to get to Bestine that quickly, why couldn't I have gotten to the mining outpost on Dantooine the same way?
In all it was a fun excursion and a cool adventure with a purpose... to go shopping. Using the standard travel system would have been much more efficient on time.
Anyone else have experiences using your own method of travel, and hops, and wait times, when not relying on public transportation?

Yeah... I have. As far as I can tell, there are only four planets you can "Travel" to from a starport. It doesn't matter what planet you're on. Tat, Corellia, Lok, and Naboo. Thats gotta be a bug....

If you want to jump directly to a planet launch your ship into space and then go to hyper space routes and jump that way, until its fixed that is the only way to go from a to b without all the little things inbetween.

As soon as you bring the travel window, it will treat you as if you are on Tatooine (or so it seems). Alrdy reported this bug during beta time after time, but it seems the devs are good at taking bugs from the beta to live.

haven't heard of this being a bug or anything like that....but one thing that comes to my mind if they allow players with ships to travel to any planet using the ship terminal, then nobody would buy tickets anymore for the shuttles.....giving players full access to jump to any planet would definitely have everyone not using the starport shuttles.....why pay 3k to go to endor when you can just jump their for free using the terminal....of course you can always go to space first and hyperspace their without spending any money...but that's extra loading time so only people who are already going to be in space or going to stay in space once they get to the new system will do that.
Anyway, it clearly seems to me that since the only systems you cantravel to are basically starter planets, I don't see that being a bug.....as I stated, to allow such freedom would totally kill the travel system in the game.....the money sink from traveling is something the game needs. I know if I can jump to any planet using my ship without having to load into space first, I'd never use the starport shuttles again.
So I hope the devs don't change it...it's fine like it is...although a docking fee for interpersonal travel wouldn't hurt if they decided to give use the option to jump from say bestine starport to science outpost on dath using our personal ship....the starter planets can stay free since 700 credits ain't much anyway.

why should i have to use metro transit? it is a space game right?
i should be able to fly my craft or ride on a charter for the cost of maintaing my craft or paying for transit on anothers. this is the new money sink, and instead of it going into nowhere, the credits go back into the player economy. better system.

I've sent this bug in a LONG time ago. The travel map always shows your ship is on Tatooine, so you can only travel to planets connected to Tatooine. Should be easy fix.

It worked for a day or so in beta (I didnt play everyday though, could have been working longer)
then the default tatooine travel guide bug struck!
This effects every JTL subscriber!
Fix it!

Like I said, I've sent in numerous bug reports on this bug everywhere, they still haven't fixed the damn thing and don't even list it as a bug!
What do I have to do, post it 1k times in forums?

You have to head up into space, and risk getting kahblamoed if you want to travel to the more distant planets. I personally like that idea...JTL wasn't designed as an alternative to the shuttle system, so it shouldn't be used as one. If you want to travel in safety, take a shuttle. If you want to fly around a bit, and go anywhere...you have to take the risks.
How is that a bug?

its obviously a bug, and if they say its "a feature" i'll be mad.
it worked fine for a short while on beta. (and im not talking about the select to fly anywhere/land anywhere mission testing build)
its obviously not a feature or they would have left out Lok as a "newb friendly space" planet to travel to, and they would have added rori and talus.
