I have been experiencing trouble with lagging since the release of JTL. I currently have 512 mb ram and am wondering if upgrading to 1GB would help with the problem.
My processor is uber and i run a dsl internet connection so those issues are not relavant.
Any replies would be appreciated.

I started playing with 512MB RAM, and experienced stutter (mainly graphics lag), especially in cities around starports and all. I'm running an AMD Athlon 2400, Radeon 9600XT graphics card, and cable modem connection. I upgraded last week to 1G of RAM, and now the graphics lag is virtually non-existent. Upgrade if you can, it will undoubtedly help.

yep its a must i upgraded my graphics and ram a while ago but it seems that the ram is the key to the lag.... ppl who just upgraded there ram found it the most beneficial.

Upgraded from 512 to 1024MB of RAM a long time ago. When I did I noticed a lot smoother gameplay.
Now my hard drive is full of crap and I haven't defragged orformatted for about a year... so there's a lot of hard drivethrashing going on.

You also might want to follow Thunderheart's suggestions in the Improving Performance thread in Announcements.
My main graphics card failed and I've had to switch to the onboard...it's not as good, obviously, and following his suggestions improved the performance at the expense of some graphics...mostly on the ground. Worth it, IMHO.
This is on a machine with a wierd RAM config - 512 + 256 + 128.

Low Frame Rate= Graphics Card(usually) or Ram
If you have good- high frame rate, but poor ping.... THEN
A) Your network, or connection is poor
B) You chose the wrong server to play on, and should of picked one closer to you.
this is the short list that is just common...... you can't assume 1 problem and assume 1 solution.
Here is a better question list
1)Over the course of the next couple days periodically go to http://reviews.cnet.com/Bandwidth_meter/7004-7254_7-0.html(or any bandwith speed tester, but this one is free and accurate). If you are getting exceptionally low response times then you now know that your internet provider SUXORS and nothing you do on your system will change that.
>> Do step 2 before you call your provider and complain.
2) Check your home network to see if you are experience the same/simular problem accross YOUR network.
>> best done by disconnecting your web access physically. Then testing internal links, file transfers, pings, ect.
>> ALSO if you notice that you have a problem internally then it is likely that it will mess up your internet speed.
3) Do you experience simular problems with games/programs with simular requirements for your hardware?
>> Ideally you would play a game that is as if not more graphically intense then the game you want to play. If you find yourself stalling then 99% of the time it is the graphics card or the ram.
If you can eliminate internal network issues, and your graphics card and ram are sufficient for the game(all ram and graphics cards are NOT created equal. Even if the box says 512 ddr ram... it might not be quality ram that will do the job u want.) THEN you need to check your internet connection.
Now we have elminated the internet provider, your network, and lowered the likely hood of a hardware problem.
4) Create another carc on SWG on a different server... start with the one that the game recommends for you. You want to play a little to see if you have the same problem, but if you do have the same problem THEN go to another server.... try a couple servers before you conclude that it is your hardware for sure.
>> if you are continuing to step 5 NOW you are sure that it is your hardware and we can look @ better ram or videocards.
5) If while standing still and not moving your frame rate is... oh lets say 30-60 and when you move it drops to like 2 or 3. You need to upgrade your videocard. UNLESS you can tell me that you have a kick ass name brand videocard and can exclude it completely.
In all honesty more people have "lag" issues to other factors that are NOT hardware related, and those who do have hardware issues find that a better video card will solve there problem better and easier then more ram.

I have 1.5 gigs of ram and I've turned off my page file (virtual memory). SWG/JtL loads and runs so nice and fast =]

SWG uses 75% upto 750mb of memory.
So 1gb is a must to performance.
I'm at 1.5, my performance issues now are cpu. Need to get something higher the 2.4 now.

I used to have 512 GB of RAM, and often came to complete standstills while in large or medium-sized cities. In Theed, I often went at 1-2 fps while running towards the cantina (mostly due to the Palace loading in the background).
I upgraded to 1GB of memory, and now I get next to no slowdown in Theed, Coronet, or anywhere else. Game runs 100% more smoothly then before I upgraded. It'sa huge help.
