Thread: Idea on How to make med centers useful

We all know med centers are not all that useful. And PC med centers are completely useless. After a little thought about the game and it's mechanics I think I see a great solution to help.


Many of us have also wanted missions for the doctors to run, and this is when it hit me. How about not having mission terminals but allowing players to generate mission rewards through their need for medical services.


The basic idea goes like this. While in a med center if a player is capped out in medical experience then instead of awarding them the xp they would have gotten give them a game generated payout for their service. This is sort of like a mission, this would pay players to perform their services inside med centers.


I would also suggest that in player owned med centers that an equal amount of the payout to the player performing the med service be generated and paid to the city to help support their med center. This way people that want to support their city would want to perform their service in their city thus making player med centers more viable as they could actually help generate a little money to help them pay for themselves.


Unfortunately, there does seem to be some ways to abuse such a system and it may not be easy to program protections against abuse.


It might take a series of steps like:


- do not allow damage incurred while in the med center to be available for the pay out reward to the doc


- start a countdown timer when the player leaves the med center so that same person can't just go out and get damaged and come back in for more healing. Something like 10 minutes or something.


- eliminate "re-buffs" from the pay out reward.


These anti-abuse steps would not disallow healing or buffing, just remove the game generated payout for such healing.


Maybe there could even be rewards just for staffing the center (being there over a period of time). but that also does bring up some challenges to abusers. We don't want AFK medics. maybe if a person walks in to the facility and starts the 10 minute timer and they don't get any service then the doc/medic forfeits any profits since the last visitor or since starting their service. One problem could be that players would abuse the medics by running in and out to kill their service time. so a terminal might have to be setup where a medic could indicate that they tried to give the person service by picking their name out of a list or something like that. But like I said abuse things might be hard to deal with, but a game pay out solution might be huge for the game and possibly worth trying to work out the abuse issues.


Other ideas about the med centers would be to:


-make the register mean something (be far more viable to players). Make it very very clear that the center is staffed. don't just put up an icon on the planetary map, but make it very clear to anyone that is not very knowledgeable. Also put indications on the overhead map and also on the outside of the building. Like large flags flying and banners next to the doors or something.


-Add any extra payout that is paid to player cities when someone earns a payout in a player med center. The extra payout could be the same the player receives but be an additional amount that is paid to the city for building and paying upkeep of the center. This would give cities an incentive to have med centers and staff them provided that there is a payout for staffing them.


-Also the healing bonus should be reviewed. Hospitals should provide the best healing in the game. Maybe change hospitals so their bonus stacks with the others like droids, cloths, etc. Or just make it better then a player can get through other means.

Could be a bit tricky to code in ways to stop abuse,


but just think how cool it could be to have a medical "mission" work this way, no terminal but still a game mission sort of.

Grant Player City Med Centers 120 medical rating capability... simple, easy, no fuss, no muss, instant functionality


Also I like my med center.. I use it as my "vendor" shop.. while people shop they auto-heal their wounds... while I craft.. I auto-heal too..


I went from 113 Battle Fatigue to nothing in a session of crafting.

I agree on increasing the med use rating... for all hospitals. Rather than having lines of people standing at Starports looking for buffs, let's move them to the med centers like the cantinas work for entertainers... I'm averaging 2500 buffs now with 925 packs, +25 clothes, 110 droid, and bivoli. If I hit 3k in a med center, you know where I'd be.


As for tumblers, np. Just buff their quickness and they heal themselves.
