Such a profession could craft most medical supplies and craft their own factories and harvesters
How much would it limit the character to not be able to build master doc/CM items?
Is there a high enough demand for medical supplies to really make this template work?
The demand is certainly there. In terms of being a doc salesman, you wouldn't be mission much except for the top level buff packs. Perhaps you wanted to make and sell those, but many docs don't bother as the resources are just too hard to gather.
Personally, I'd forget about architect - just purchase your harvesters and factories. Besides, if you're serious about crafting meds, you're going to need every lot you can spare for food and chem factories and harvesters - you can't waste any on structure factories (which take up 2 lots). I'd take those extra skill points and invest in some merchant.
At 0/4/4/4, you'll have as many experimentation points as a master doc. However, Marrow1 makes a good point. You could craft subcomponents and things yourself as well as a master doctor and then hand some of those items to a master doctor to build schematics for the highest level enhancement packs, if you so desired.
It would be a rather interesting relationship, but I could see it working.
