Yes, I am a complete newbie

I had a few questions. I started looking into the Doctor profession and got bogged down in pages of components and crafting resources. Frankly, it kind of scared me! I had wanted to be a healer, not a crafter. Can I get some experienced view on the profession and how it plays out day to day.

Thank you so much!

When I started the game I naturally went for Medic then Doctor as thats the profession I have played in other games and fits in with my playstyle. Its what I enjoy. What I found in this game is that the Doctor profession doesn't equate well with the other games I've played. I think Combat Medic would be more similar.

People/groups tend not to need lots of healing on the fly once they are fully buffed. After buffing, you are useful for rezzing. I see more doctors selling their buffs than acutally out in a group.

Alot already have basic medic skills so there is some redundacy to your skills. You do get to cure states and poison/disease.

I'm sure this isn't the case for all Doctor's but I view myself more as a crafting profession as I tend to spend most of my time offering buffs and mining resources/creating medical supplies for my vendor. This doesn't mean I don't group, but aside from the initial buffs to the group (which you could do by just selling your buffs) and being able to rez, I tend to feel like a spare tyre. Useful for emergencies but otherwise redundant.

The crafting side of things is quite easy as a Doctor, much better than an artisan.

Ive been a Master Doctor for ages, and components are not really a huge bother, but it depends on how much you want to work at it. Personally, I just try and get good OQ resources. When you first start as doc, you only need about 2-3k of organics, inorganics, chemical and water. Even as novice artisan you could place some cheap harvestors and get more than enough resources to keep you going for ages.

If you hunt / combat type too, it becomes even easier since you can heal in groups for xp, harvest animals for organics and use the money to pay for the others.

If you want even better meds you could hunt down the resources for advanced components, but ive never made an advanced components and my meds are more than competent at keeping myself and my buddies alive

The crafting part is tough, but eventually you get through to the other side
