Was thinking about becoming a sort of merchant doctor;obtaining all my own supplies and selling things such as stims, various packs, extra resources, etc. Is this a viable profession choice? My template would be something like this:

  • MD

  • Artisan 0/0/4/4

  • Merchant 3/0/0/0

  • Scout 0/0/2/0

  • Some basic combat skill tree

This would give me the ability to survey/harvest my own supplies including meat with hunting 2 & basic combat skills & have a shop on the planetary map.

Any comments/suggestions/warnings would be appreciated.

Before I get any kind of business up & running, I plan on harvesting for a good 3 months or so to stockpile some resources so I dont run out immediately Also would be interested in hearing from other medical retailers what sells; I plan on keeping the enhancement packs mainly to myself so....stims and ??? What else is worth selling? State cures? Ress packs?

I have a similar template.

Currently my skills are

Master Doctor

Merchant 3-0-0-0

TKA 0-1-4-0

Surveying II

STIM-B crates sell pretty good, but soon you will be able to sell for 6k at the bazaar so maybe I drop merchant again because I can put 25*6 = 150 STIM-B in crates of 6 on the bazaar.

If you go this route I recommend selling only big crates of 25 and 50 on the vendor. I put way too many 10and 5 crates on the vendor, they don`t sell well.

This template is a nice mix, I still can kill nightsisters, have a crafting profession that increases my fighting abilities and can still sell the stuff I make.

In my opinion success is going to depend on two things mainly: the market on your server and your shop location.

If I were you I'd probably start a vendor as soon as your resources allow and put it on the map. You don't have to advertise on the forums right away, just see if your products move at all. Get a shop sign too, it does help in my experience (especially in an area with lots of shops, like just outside Theed). Hopefully if you're not in a completely out of the way place you'll create some awareness over time while you stockpile resources. Then make a big advertising push on the trade forums.

Being in a player city probably helps, but I have no experience with running a business in a player city yet.

I sell pretty much everything I think, including state packs. On my server there is one successful doc focusing on enhance packs making it difficult for me to break into that market. Big sellers for me are stimpack B and woundpack B, but I like to keep most stuff in stock if possible so I can provide a one stop pharmaceuticals vendor for everything a medic/doctor might need.

If you have more than 100 items on your vendor, make sure your customers know to check the second page. This one's a doozy!

The only issue is getting a supply chain set up, if you can get that then ur set, getting resources is the main problem of mine on tempest at least.

I'm Master Doc--Master Merchant--Surveyorand it works quite well for a medical business. The maintenance savings on harvestors/bldgs/etc. is quite a nice advantage. I use harvestors to pick up most resources and pay hunters wellto accumulate large quantities of herbivore and avian meat for me.

I want to caution you onplanning to running harvestors AND hunting your own meat. I tried this at one point and found there wasn't enough time to do both. The main problem is hunting is time consuming to accumulate meat. For example on a max run of ACRDMs 16k of herbivore meat is required and I do this kind of run a few times a week. It's much more time efficient to pay hunters 15-30cpu to do this for you. Then you can focus on the much more realistic task of surveying/harvesting, crafting/factorizing, and filling your vendor.
