Thread: Buffing idea, inspired by Vegas
I think most players would like some kind of change in enhancements and I’m willing to bet a few Docs like me are getting a bit bored with the standard buff system. So why not shake it up a little Vegas style, adding risk to the reward?
Here is the idea:
Docs can enhance the same stat multiple times, with each consecutive buff having half the power of the previous one. If the combined buffs go over a set limit, pre-defined by the Devs, then the last one to go over fails and actually reduces the buff by the amount over the cap. That stat is then set till the buff wears out.
Example numbers:
Lets just say that the Devs want a maximum hard limit of +4000 for any 1 enhanced stat
Our test doc has some enhance packs that will vary between 1000 and 4000 points.
Player A: Hey Doc, I need buffs.
Doc: 1500cr per shot
Player A: Lets do it! (pays 1500)
Doc enhances Player A’s health for 2000 (the random number between 1000 and 4000)
Player A: I’m going up against Krayts Doc, gonna need more than that. (pays 1500)
Doc enhances Player A’s health for 1250 (the random number between 500 and 2000 and a total buff so far of 3250)
Player A: Hit me one more time Doc! (Pays 1500)
Doc: I should warn you that this much enhancement to one stat could be dangerous.
Player A: C’mon, hit me Doc
Doc enhances Player A’s health for 500 (the random number between 250 and 1000 and a total buff so far of 3750)
Player A: Great, now hit my action Doc, probably be doin’ a bunch of running. (Pays 1500)
Doc enhances Player A’s action for 3000 (the random number between 1000 and 4000)
Player A: Nice one! Again! (Pays 1500)
Doc: Are you sure, you are pretty close to the limit your body can withstand?
Player A: Yeah hit me Doc, I wanna be the highest in the group!
Doc enhances Player A’s action for 1250 (the random number between 500 and 2000 for a total of 4250, 250 over the cap limit)
Player A goes into cardiac arrest, Doc whips out the jumper cables and brings Player A back
The Shock to player A’s system removes 250 from his last 3000 buff, he is now locked at 2750 action till it runs out.
Player A: Thanks for bringing me back Doc, uh, stamina next right? (Pays 1500)
Doc: If you still want to roll the dice. (Doc places a fresh battery in his med droid and keeps the paddles nearby)
Or something like that. Basically I’d like to see buffing almost as a mini game to add a bit of risk to the reward and to keep things interesting. Right now the only risk in buffing is if a Doc takes a players word that he will pay after buffing, and I’ve lost that game too many times. Let the Doc be like dealers, the house always wins. ![]()
