Thread: Suggestion for doctor.

I am currently a Master Doctor/Master TKA and I enjoy my character, but I must say that I am frustrated with the defense stacking of others lately. I sacrifice a lot of my skill points to be able to heal myself well, cure disease and poison, and buff myself.... but everyone who is in a group with me benefits from these skills as well. I do not benefit at all from someone else being a defense stacker and impossible to hit. Everyone discusses the money that a doctor can make selling buffs, but it takes a lot of time and effort to run around making money to buy buffs for selling or collecting resources to make your own and some of us doctors don't enjoy sitting around selling buffs (believe it or not). When I am in a pvp situation, everyone in my group benefits from my ability to heal, cure states, cure disease and poison, buff, rez, drag corpses, etc. No one drags or rezzes me. Noone buffs me, or cures my poisons or diseases. I am told that being able to buff myself is return enough on my investment, but anyone of a reasonable fighting level can do a mission or two in5 minutes and buy the same buffs from someone in any major city. The doctor class istotally thankless and often a major cash sink.

As a result of this I have another suggestion for the doctor class and I am curious how stupid the rest of you think this is. To make people more viable in combat who choose to burn a LOT of skill points on the doctor profession, who would object to some MINOR state resistances innate to the profession? An innate resistance to poison/disease? Innate resistance to stun/dizzy/blind? I am not talking about a major boost here, just something that makes those who choose to be actually helpful to people around them more viable in an actual combat situation. As it stands now, I am dizzied (TKM getsdefense versus dizzy +5for those that dont know)and knocked down within about 10 seconds of entering combat these days by anyone who knows who I am, so something to give me a chance against these 140+ melee/ranged defense guys wound be nice. Now I do not expect to beat these people 1 on 1 on a regular basis, but being able to survive a little longer on occasion would be nice. I realize that defense stacking is getting a "nerf" in the upcoming publish, but the cap is still pretty high and I am still gimped in comparison with little personal benefit versus the massive personal benefit that the stackers get.

What do you guys think?

Just my two cents:

I agree that Doctor can be a bit thankless at times. But from an in game/roleplaying point of view I see the Doctor as more of a service profession.

1. being a general practioner: healing, buffing, curing diseases, etc.

2. at a chemist: makingstim packs, wound packs, enhance packs, etc.

To make a real world comparison (sorry) Doctoris a skilled, but wealthy profession. Where you help people who are not able to help themselves. To say it's a highly sought after skill, but is expensive (in terms of skill points) to do so. In a combat situation I don't see the Doctor (as a stand alone profession), there other than a support element. Hence: Help people who are not able to help themselves. In the form of healing, curing, dragging, rezzing, etc.

In a typical RPG I see jobs such as : White Mage, Holyman, Monk, Cleric, etc. In SWG I see the dividing of these titles and responsibilities to the Medics, Combat Medics and the Doctors. Whereas the Combat Medics get skills more relating to "Combat" and Offense (Disease). And Doctors more in terms of the Healer or Defensive support (Buffs & curing) in which the curing take the form of damage prevention, if you will.

To speak to the additional resistances, this could make sense for a Doctor possibly in the form of a "Vaccine" to prevent negative effects. This I think would be cool. But on another side of things, the Chef now has alot of new food to boost resistance to alot of these exact things.

Like I said just my two cents...Not a flame, so I hope it doesn't come across as one.

Im all for new Doctor content and what not, however, I have the folowing opinions:

1. Doctors are one of the most complete and functional proffessions in the game. Most of our skills work perfect, or near perfect, and with the inclusion of fire blankets, the experimentation tweaks, and the removal of buff randomness, most of the things on our bug and wishlists are prety much small item tweaks.

2. There are other proffessions with far more problems that I would rather have the devs spend ther time on. Rangers and Squad Leaders have virtually zero (there are a couple perks, but not many) use. Droid Engineers will be getting some love, but its taken a long time to get it, and so forth. Combat Medics, while I dont believe the really need to be nerfed, obviously need something done to quite all the people continuosly screaming at them.

3. I would like to see more content like the upcoming Correllian Corvette missions. While we have lots of skills and lots of abilities, we need more challenging and interesting places to go use them.

4. The Galactic Civil War is sooo screwed up, I dont even want to go into it now. Suffice to say the GCW, and PvP in general, need a lot of work.
