Thread: Doctor vs. Combat Medic Resource question:

Tonight I qualified for both Novice Doctor and Novice Medic, and after doing a decent amount of research Im still not sure which route I want to take. Im still not quite sure which would be better suited for me (TKA/Medic/Scout) in general, but one thing Im curious about is this:

When it comes to the Resources needed for buffing/poisoning,and the grinding involved to get to the point of buffing/poisoning,which profession (CM or DOC) is the LEAST pain to collect and grind?? I dont play as much as I used to, so I have to take into account how much time and effort goes into resource gathering and grinding between the two professions. So i guess what im asking is which profession requires less effort when it comes to resource gathering, and is the least time consuming when it comes to grinding for xp? Thank you for your suggestions!!

I am going to go ahead and say Doc will be easier just because the resources that the CM's need seem to be harder to harvest and harder to find on the Bazaar (at least on Flurry) If you are not going to master doc or cm then go with doc cause more vendors are out there for doc then there are CM. Doc will also work nicely with TKA since you would be able to buff yourself and pretty much make yourself a walking tank. I did Doc and CM together and the main thing I liked about CM was the area heals in a big party. I am sure with a good combat class with CM you might be someone to be reckoned with. I just don't see anyone but a gamer who plays a lot getting full potential out of CM.

CM resources suck big time if you can't survey, and even if you can they are insane to get.

CMs need a lot more specific stuff then doctor for their high level gear (they ahve a complete 2nd set of advanced components as well).

Trust me. We got it easy compared to CM's resource wise.

Head over to swgcraft.com and take a look at their schematics.

IN ADDITION to the items needed for our advanced sub components (the advanced sub components given in organic chem IV are used in their meds also) they need specific radioactives (class 2 I believe) specific aluminum IN ADDITION to dolovite (titanium aluminum) and I think 2 specific gasses. Our schematics just need reactive gas. There's needs electon gas etc.

Keep in mind that their ranged stims require ABEC's ALS's and the like and they can't expirement them since their experimentation points are based on combat medic assembly and not doc assembly. So in addition to having to require all those specific components they either have to take doc crafting OR buy all their advanced sub components to be able to make the best ranged stims.

What do CM's get in return for all this trouble? Poisons that make them virtual kings of PvP.

So take your pick.

Why do you guys say that, do CMs look for things besides the always asked for Avian and Herbivore meat? I find it interesting how you put that in the first post, that only a Hardcore/ Daily player would get the most out of CM, and like I said above, I dont play as often as I used to. So that kind of tells me something right there if you feel its for the Hardcore players. Thanks!I would love to do the poisons b/c youre right, it would be nice for area heals and poisoning, but like you also said being able to buff yourself when your a TK would be a sweet tank . Anybody disagree with their leanings towards Doctor?

I craft both doc's meds and CM's poisons/diseases and the CM stuff is MUCH worse in terms of resources. Here's a breakdown:

Doc's use:

Tatooine Fiberplast (always available)
Lokian Wild Wheat (always available)
Dantooine Berry Fruit (always available)
Talusian Water (always available)
Herbivore Meat (always available)
Class 4 Liquid Petrochem Fuel
Domesticated Oats (always available)
Dolovite Iron
Avian Meat
Reactive Gas (always available)

CM's use (in addition to some of the above):

Class 2 Liquid Petrochem Fuel
Yavinian Fiberplast (always available)
Class 1 Radioactive
Tolium Reactive Gas
Titanium Aluminum
Eleton Reactive Gas
Fungi (always available)
Insect Meat (always available)

As you can see, CM's are far more dependant on rare spawns (those that are not alwayts available). While CM's do not need any of the one's in the doctor's list to make poison or disease, they do need the first 6 in the doc list (or components made from them) to make their ranged and area stims.

Resource-wise... It's much easier to find doctor resources... They are generally less specific and you will definitely find more suppliers...

if you intendto grind through the crafting... its all the same ... ABEC's

Resources for CM aren't really impossible to find.. just takes a lil more effort.. and hope that your server has the resources available in the current shift.. heh

Sweet posts and NICE list Obata! Its looking like doc for me, except i cant get that post out of my mind that said "What do CM get in return? Kings of PvP." Hmm...very interesting way of putting it.

Rawhead you'd never get this wookiee to start cuttin rug in the cantina, i dont care if my Holo said "Do it or die.", lol. Weaponsmith? Naw, the medical crafting has given me nightmares already:

CMs have it sooo much harder resource-wise. Unless you are a masochist, take the easy road and stick with Doc.

btw you don't need to be TKM to be effective in PVE or PVP.
