I have some Class 6 Solid Petro that is 922 oq/0 ut/780 pe. If I use that as the Inorganic component in a stim, shouldn't I get higher effectiveness but fewer charges than if I use 878 oq/903 ut steel?

Here's what I get:
Using the Petro as the Inorganic, the B Stim's base is 340 eff/33 charges with 25% effectiveness and 14% charges. Distributing the points evenly will get me a stim that is 384/38.

Using the steel as the Inorganic and all other components the same, the stim's base is 341/34 and it will experiment up to 391/40.

The way I understand it, shouldn't the Petro stim have much higher effectiveness but lower charges?

when determining the maximum allowed experimentation swg calculates the weighted averages of the resource attributes, if a resource does not have the corresponding attribute it is not included in this average - but if no resource has the required attribute then the weighted average is equal to zero.

this means for stimpack crafting:

if you use one resource with OQ/PE and one with OQ/UT (doesnt matter which is the organic/inorganic) then your charges will be determined by

1/3 OQ1 + 1/3 OQ2 + 1/3 PE1

and your power will be determined by

1/3 OQ1 + 1/3 OQ2 + 1/3 UT2

but if you use resources that both have OQ/PE but no UT, then your charges will drop to

1/3 OQ1 + 1/3 OQ2 + 0

but your power changes to

1/3 OQ1 + 1/3 OQ2 + 1/6 PE1 + 1/6 PE2

(it would turn out likewise if you use resources with UT but no PE)

basically i dream of a game system that does not need to help NPCs by giving them ungodly amounts hitpoints, resistances and damage, where there is no need for special damage reductions in PvP...

The way crafting works now, is that if a material has no stat it is not counted at all (confirmed by devs. Not likely to change anytime soon without a massive schematic and materia lrevamp).

So if you have 1 matyerial with a PE of 955, you will get no benefit from the other material unless its PE is 956 or higher, but because of percentages, that bonus will be very small (even with a second material of 1000 PE the average would be like 973 and not really be worth it). If it is lower then 955 it will actually average the PE DOWN, and make your item worse.

Same is true for UT.

So it is always bet in meds (currently) to make sure 1 material has good PE, and the other had good UT (Both to have good OQ). That way the one with the high score will carry the one with no score.

It doesn't matter which is which. I am currently makein g HQ meds out of Liquid petrochem 2 (high OQ and PE) and wood (High OQ and UT)... which is usually the opposite spread of organic to inorganic... but they are not popular materials, so I got them really cheap.
