Thread: Tipping is not just a city in China

Lots of people in the game seem to be content to let you heal their wounds and either not give you anything for your trouble or give you an inadequate tip. Many's the time that I've been in a medcenter or cantina/medcenter and seen somebody standing around with partly black HAM bars. "Want me to heal you?"I'll ask. "Yes," they'll say. "Okay, can you tip?" I'll ask. And I swear, at this point I can actually see these people in front of their PCs in some other corner of the world staring incredulously at the screen and going "**edit**? He actually wants me to PAY for treatment? What a jerk!"

My first day in the game another medic told me "Don't ask people to tip; it's rude." For a long time I didn't ask them to and for a long time I didn't receive any payment for services rendered. By now I'm fed up enough that I make it a habit of always asking before I help anybody out.

Anyway, I didn't post just to commiserate. I was curious to get everybody's input on what they think a reasonable tip is for healing 100 or more wounds. I've been telling patients who ask what to tip that 1000 isokay and more than that is great. Would you say that's asking too much, too little or that it's about right?

If things are this bad for us I can't imagine how tough it must be for entertainers.

Well me personally I will just healed them and go on. Being a doctor I don't make my money off of heals anyways. It is nothing for me to just heal them and be on my way.

I have a second Doc I'm leveling up the hard way.. combat healing and wound healing ... lol crafting as I go too... wheee... Its an experiment, and I can correct papers with him sitting in a med center.

Anyway, peopel wander in. "Can you heal wounds?" And I reply "you have any money?"

There are 2 different kinds of tips:

1.) The Real Life tip (which is what you give for good service, above and beyond payment for service or items).

2.) the badly named SWG "/" command.

If you ask for payment and not a tip. It is a payment for service. If you as k for a tip, you are expecting generosity.

Honestly, if SWG has a /pay command instead of a /tip command, we'd get more money. Using the word "tip" drops us in the world where money is extra instead of expected.

Asking for a tip, is indeed rude. Asking to be paid for your services / materials is not.

Er...is there an easy way? As far as I know the only ways to gain medical XP are healing people damaged in combat, healing entertainers, healing people who tumble and healing wounds.

There's rezzes and buffs too I guess. What am I not thinking of?

Setting fire to pets and healing their wounds.

Lame, but effective.

I levelled up the hard way

The sooner they get rid of this hologrinding nonsense the better in my book.

The easy (I feel cheating ways)

Heal flamed pets or diseased pets

Heal tumble monkeys

Heal with a CM diseasing a willing subject

Now those aside

My favorite way to get XP was to save up enough money for a crate of 10 33/400 stim Bs that I used to heal on dant in a group of 20 while hunting the primitive people on the planet.

the buffing pets, tumbling are the easy way. The hard way is actually playing the game and leveling as you go, you level because you actually contributed to the playing of the game not because you followed some easy way to master the profession.

Yeah, I got most of my xp from combat healing, healing wounds on people in the starport (not the med center), and then buffing people with mediocre packs (I always asked first and usually threw them on newbies first).

Now that you can overwrite buffs, you could just run around buffing all and sundry with so so packs and make a load of xp in no time without pissing them off

"Setting fire to pets and healing their wounds."

I am not going to torture my pets or anybody else's for XP. I don't care that they're not real animals, I still think that's sick.

No offense....

Yeah, a lot of my XP have come from hunting groups on Dant--as well as the bulk of the money in my bank account because of the aforementioned reluctance of patients to pay well (or at all) for healing.

If you find out about a resource spawn from SWGCraft.Com, does anyone here tip whoever posted it?

Fine, I'll weigh in.

If you are healing just for exp, and descend on new patients like a vulture (or are in a med center with those who act in that manner, such as Coronet), don't expect to be paid. I have found, however, that if I chat with the patient and show some personality/interaction when healing, I almost always get something. I view this as similar to me not tipping afk entertainers since they are not "playing the game" but are either grinding and/or macroing, neither of which I view as tip-worhty, especially since they incur no costs to do it.

As has been indicated elsewhere, the best way to both get fast exp and earn cash and/or meat is to join a hunting party. You also can get combat and scouting exp this way as well.

With respect to tipping those who update SWGCraft.com, I do show them some love when I can (buffing them for free, etc.); but I believe that my contributions to SWGCraft.com are the expected and appropriate "tip" for that information.

All IMHO, of course.
