Thread: A Master Docs Rant!

Firstly, I would like to apologise to all of the honest people, how have the intelligence and know something about the doc profession and know its not all as easy as some may think. Some of the people i buff are really class people, who I am glad to say i share a server with (chimaera). Unfortunatly, not all people share this intelligence and the result is a lot of VERY unhappy doctors at the moment...me included.

I like to consider myself someone who is well natured and someone who will try and help people if I can. There have been many times I have stopped off while going somewhere to heal a newbie trying to kill a kreetle or rezzing a more experienced player doing harder missions. I do not expect a tip for this, just a simple 'ty doc' is good enough for me. Now as far as I am concerned, this is what being a doctor is all about. Without wanting to sound like an old man (im only 20) it doesnt take much.

The one thing that annoys me most is that people seem to think that its a docs OBLIGATION to heal, rez and buff them. Believe it or not, doctors are not here to buff people 100% of the time. Some of us need to go out and run missions, check harvesters to get the components to make YOU the very best buffs we possibly can or just sort out odds and ends. I have had tells from people literally demanding me to shuttle over to another planet just to buff them. We also do not appreciate tells saying 'BUFF ME' or sometimes not even that. A nice one i like is 'REZ'. Why should I go out of my way for someone who cant even say please?

As a master doc I know that if i wear my tags I am going to be in 'tell hell' but some people fail to realise this. I try and reply to as many tells as possible but as any master doc will tell you it is not always possible. There have now been quite a few occaisions where i have receiced tells saying 'DONT REPLY THEN YOU F*CKING W*NKER YOUR BUFFS ARE SH*T ANYWAY'. What have I done to deserver this? I would rather not have this persons money and watch them try and hunt buffless!

Another thing that I have encountered recently is people saying that my buffs are expensive. I currently charge 10k for buffs which I see a fair price considering the quality of the buffs. One thing that always makes me laugh is the fact that no one ever complains about the price after they see the result. Yes you may be able to buffs for 6k, will they all be in the 2000s peaking at just under 2500? I very much doubt it on my server (Chimaera). I take a pride in being a doctor and offering good qualty buffs so you can go out anad solo that NightSister cave for the million credit loot, or s that you can do that theme park. I use BE clothes and Bivarri which also bump up my expenses quite a lot. Could i charge 10k and not use these extras? Yes! Would I still get as many customers? probably. Remember people, not even half of that 10k goes into our back pockets and buff packs are not cheap!

I am currently trying to gather some good quality resources so that I can mame my own buff packs in teh future. This will reduce my costs, but it is VERY time consuming....I know I certainly respect the people who make their own, good quality packs now. This comes down to me not knowing about something then researching it so that I could actually see both sides. I think doing this could help a few other people out too.

The last thing that really annoys me at the moment is this whole bank tipping scam. Yes I do keep an eye on my bank account, yes i do make sure it keeps to multiples of 10k but what do you suggest I do when 4 people tip me at once without even asking me if I will buff them? I cannot prove who it was, I cannot not tip them back...Conlusion? I end up with a loss and the person goes and solos some caves, gets some good loots which results in loads of cash for them. Seeing my point here?

I think it is time some people started to realise how much doctors are relied upon and that we are actually doing YOU the service. Yes, the money is nice but we do not make as much as you think we do. You can argue that doctors are not relied upon but then answer why we receive 'tell hell' from people asking for buffs? Im also sure if you looked at some peoples stat migration you would see a lot of people would be only able to solo these big lairs if they were buffed. If you do not believe me, go hunting for a week without buffs are see how you fare. Then you may come up to me and say we are too expensive etc.

Once again,im sorry for this rant and if you are not one of these people...please do not take offence to any of the above. I have had occaisions where i have given people discounts simply because they were polite. Im sure that I can speak for docs on all servers when I say it is nice to have someone saw 'wow' after you hit the first buff or thank you for hitting a ood set of buffs. I know a lot of people who have come back to me so I must be doign something right.

Im looking for opinions on this thread from both docs and non docs but please keep the flaming down as that is nto what this thread is intended for. If you want to discuss anything my IGN is xtorticus...feel free to send me a mail/tell (Im a chilled out person really....honestyly! )

sounds to me like you hit the nail on the head..... in case you havnt figured it out, /addignore is you best friend. personally, I dont really watch my bank account when people tip, I figure most people are going to be honest, and making sure you get the full tip each time will just give you one more thing to do while you reply to tells, buff people, awnser their spatial questions, talk to your friends....

One thing that might help to alleviate the tells is to make a macro.

I have a macro that is simply this

/r This is an automated response I charge 8K for buffs and I buff each stat for above 2000

I have this hotkeyed to shift + f2

Whenever I get the many "are you buffing" posts I simply hit shift + f2 and boom they have all they need to know. I also like to sit at the star port so I could have another one that simply says "starport" when they ask where I am.

Being a doc does require patience (and I think your limit has just been reached ) but one thing that could help alleviate your stress levels is to simply keep reminding yourself that the nice people far outweigh the bad ones.

There have been times when all I had to do to stop the tell bombs was simply to say in spatial "hang on guys I'm being tell bombed" and I get "ok" back from everyone.

This is one example where the old swg main forum would have come in handy because, for the most part, only docs post here.

I appreciated the hell out of doctors that buff (as well as ones that dont) prior to working on the medic tree towards doctor myself. I always imagined they would be in tell hell considering the crowds that gather around them. 10k is about the average price and doesnt seem to be exhorbatant for making you nearly God-like for 2 hours.

Now that I am working on doctor I appreciate them even more...I have found that healers get the shaft 9 times out of 10...i guess people figure the measly 150xp you get for healing thier 300wounds is worth more than a few credits...I always made it a point to tip the healers/entertainers well as I thought that it was the proper thing to do (which it is)...guess we must be a silent minority. (Thanks to all of you who do tip for services rendered)

True. xTorTicus, have you posted your (justified!) rant on your galaxy forum? More chance the people you want to reach will actually read it.
