Thread: Buffing, A sensitive issue

I need some advice from my fellow doctors. I have been a master doctor for several months. Most of those months I was unguilded or in a failrly sizable guild. After taking a break for a 2 months I have come back and joined a small close nit guild. Here's my situation, I use my doctor for selfhealing/buffs, healing diseases on just about anyone, and buffing for big guild activities. I don't sell medical supplies, and I usually don't sell buffs. I'm also a Master Swordsman and money isn't too much of an issue for me. The problem is that some guild members who are good friends think I'm on call all the time for buffs. When I gave the buffs at first I politely refused money, eventually I began accepting a discounted rate for the buffs to guildies. Like I said I generally don't gather resources cause like I said I don't sell buffs or med stuff. So when I do a run of supplies its to last a good while and quiet expensive and alot of personal work. However these guildies getting buffed three and four times a dayoutside of guild activitiesare burning through my supplies. They don't see the problem and even get upset if I try and turn them away because they are guildies and friends and they are paying. They don't understand that I simply don't need the money. Then they often offer supplies but loose interest when the understand how specific the resources we use are. How do I make them understand that I don't need their cash, and I don't want them burning through my buff supplies on a daily basis why they level? I provide full doctor care at all guild activities at no cost, and offer master swordsman combat abilities I think I'm filling my role in the guild quite well. Any advice here would be helpful. I want to be a great doctor to my guild, but I can't help but feel like I'm being taken advantage. When people are leveling and poor they can't step away and see that the credits that seems so valuable to them aren't the same to someone out of the grind and the doctor is seens as a means to an end to gain the next level.

Or just craft some random buffs with whatever is laying around. Wind up with 650-750 power buff d's that last 1.5 hours. Tell them, "Sorry, you burned through all my good buffs, and weren't interested in bringing me more QUALITY ingredients"

They'll get the hint, and either buy you some Guild Only buffs (as previously mentioned) or will start taking an interest in harvesting with/for you.

My guild did the harvesting route. I must have 1mil of each resource, in 900+/900+ stats, of everything except the avian and herbivore. When these spawn, we hunt it, I get 16k of it (enough for a factory run) and they sell the rest at markup.

The upshot is, with all this quality ingredients laying around, I can make them non Adv CRDM stim b's in the 38c/360p/5mu range by the crate, and hand them out like candy. They LOVE that.

Figure out what would make you happy, and stick with it.

I hate buffing. I don't buff for cash and I do buff my guild mates for big events. The thing is my doctor is my secondary char, well my fist character but I don't play him as a character any more, I never liked sitting there buffing people but once you do and people know what you are then you can obviously get loads of pm for buffs.

When my guild was setting up a group of people to do combat regulary I got an email to my doc as they wanted him in the group but I had to reply saying I don't play this char as anything other than a buffbot for me and a mate anymore.

I can understand your situation. I was in a large guild and would buff everyone in my hunting groups. I wouldn't accept tips for buffs, and after a while I didn't even get a "Thank You" for buffs. I felt like I was taken advantage of and I left the guild. The guild dues were 1000cr a week for the honor to be the guild buff-o-matic, that didn't go over with me. I would suggest letting them know that buffs aren't free, and you need herbivore meat, or avian meat, or whatever you need. Let them know that you can't supply free buffs all the time.

Simply tell them what you told us.

You are running out of supplies by buffing them 3-4 times a day.

It's not about the money, it's about the fact that you just don't have enough buffs to sustain their "habit"

Don't be cruel, don't be harsh simply tell them that you are flat out running out of buffs.

If they want to help divide up the duties. Have some run for avian meat, some for herb meat, have others survey for domesticated oats, lok wheatetc.

Also tell them that the quality of their buffs depend on the quality of items they give to you.

If they still don't accept it and still demand for you to buff them politely tell the guild leader that you will have to leave for the simple reason that you can't afford tobuff them all the time.

About 3 months ago when I was pure combat (Commando/Heavy Sword), I would need buffs all the time, but I refused to ask my duild docs (We only had 2), because they mad their own packs. So I finally went out and bought a crate of 5 (of all 6.. cost about 300Kish) and gave them the buffs, and told them to buff the guild with it. It turned out well.

Now that I'm a doc. (3441, slowly working up) Everyone wants buffs. I get tells from guildies on different planets to revive them, buff them, all kinds of nonsense. I feel kind of bad about it, but for about 80% of my guild I charge for the buffs. If others have helped me out, they get free... If they are annoying little wankers who send me /tell's all day, they pay full price.

I actually had a guy come from Naboo (Our City), to the Mining outpost on Dant, fro buffs cause he thought they would be free. I made him pay, cause I had to wait for him, and waste my time playing.

Just my 2 cents.

I guess I'm lucky. Have a small guild, but most of them don't bother me at all for buffs. All except one of course. Every time I see him log on I've got in the habit of putting up the AFK sign, and don't you know, within2 minutes, exact same tell every time "hey m8, you on Tat??"

I just became a Master Doc - our guild has 2 others currently as well (out of 39) members. I've asked for buffs before, and give them now - but one thing that is great about our guild is that we've all worked together to help each other out. I've been on many past guild hunts to help get herb or avian meat on specific planets because the docs found out the current stats were great - and at the end of the hunt, we pool the meat together and put it into our crafters resource storage house... Same with the various crafters helping each other out with gathering other resources when good shifts happen...

I do the same thing. There is a guy in my old guild I gave tons of resources and credits. I'm talking millions. Even after being in the game for months, he still trys to get credits off me almost every week. I'm not even in the same guild anymore.

There isa point you have to put your foot down and say no. I am a very nice person, but can only handle abuse by lazy cheap players for so long.

Wow guys thanks for the responses its good to see I'm not the only one facing this situation. To respond to couple of the ideas you guys mentioned. The idea of having guildies get meat for me. I thought this would have been great it would mean I could drop scout completely as I would no longer need to harvest meat. The response I got just irked the hell out of me. Went something along the lines of "Going to hunt Herb meat for 40 cpu if you hook us up with buffs on a regular basis I will sell you as must at you want for 20 cpu or even better I'm going to hunt 20k of herb meat at 40 cpu if you hook me up with free buffs for a while I'll give you 10 percent of it for free, thats worth 80k". I can't explain to you guy how much this proved to me they just didn't understand in the least about crafting buffs or what a doctor does. First they weren't burning through my buffs I wouldn't need it in the first place. Second they think are cutting me some huge deal because some uber rich buff house doc has placed a ridiculous price on the meat. I would never pay more than 10 cpu for any resources and even then I have to be desperate for it. I then if i take the stack of meat for free the section option, since that got this idea that it must be worth a ton of money to me I really owe them buffs whenever whereever they want, 1 I can get the meat myself, and 2 great you gave me meat well guess what it takes like 10 other ingrediants to make a buff. I really like the idea of them buying me crates of guild only buffs but it'll never happen because the first response is always well want ingrediants do you need to make it. They are pretty tight with their cash so buying crates is probably out and when its comes to the individual resources they would much rather place a credit rate on and take the easy way out rather than actually find it. Its not really giving the buffs or making them that bothers me as much as I'm interupted in what i'm doin to give them. Its so annoying to have a great roleplay experience broken up by somone needing buffs or be interupeted in the middle of a themepark. I'm sorry for such a long post I guess I'm venting alot of my frustration on you guys. This seems to be a good place to do it as I'm one of only two guild doctors and its not like the other guildies will be reading the doctor forums.
