Thread: May we nerf your droids?

Hi guys, I put a discussion up in the Ranger forums, and the truth is that a combo of surgical droids and medics/doctors is ripping a section of interdepence between rangers and other players apart. I'd appreciate some constructive feedback on this.

I only read the first post. First of all any dorid can have 110% if they have that good a medical module in them. Second of all if im healing wounds in the field i still dont use a camp. I call the pet and leave the camp because my droid is better anyway. But i cant remember the last time i healed wounds in the field. If you want camps to be more usefull how bout geting entertainers to be able to heal fatigue in them. The way it is now on hunts all we use camps for is to keep our mind in shape....Buffs keep the rest of the stats just fine unless you take some major damage.

Nerfing our droid wont make us use camps it would just make medics of all types unhappy. Also id ask them to allow camps to remane alive longer after they are "abandond" so you can use it as a regroup point. Make the large ranger camps with the electric fence actualy keep mobs out of them. Stop them from being destroied if you fight in them also...thats just lame. But nerfing medic droids does almost nothing to make camps more usefull...Id rather go to town wen im realy hurt than heal in a camp for less of a boost.

Just give Ranger camps the same medical rating as a 110 droid or a hospital, plus let entertainers heal BF in them, stop them poofing when you fight from them as a base, possibly include a mission terminal in the field bases, that would be really useful.

... but leave our droids alone, why is it that when classes want to make themselves better it's nearly always by nerfing another one ?

Agreed.

This is not an issue of medical droids. Its a problem with how the current camps work. I gave up Master Ranger a long time ago with the bugs and the lack of extended features (as stated above, how crappy is it that a "High-Tech Field Base" is instantly abandoned because the fencing doesn't work). The description of Master Ranger etc doesn't fit.

In my opinion "nerfing" droids defeats the whole purpose of using them (in my opinion) and would also defeats the purpose of "droid invasion" which (again, my opinion) is intended to create a more active interest in droids and extending their functionality.

If you seek to "nerf" functionality, you'll simply be pissing many people off, and in my opinion, making them less functional will destroy a large portion of the devs push for exploration. I think the statements above about addressing the existing issues is a wise one.

Hmm I have a Ranger and a Doc char and to be honest I see no benefit from the proposal it'll only makes docs unhappy and won't really benefit the Rangers (and correct me if i'm wrong but I'm quite sure our high tech camps have a lot more than the 65% med rating). Think there are far more useful ideas for camps already in the outdoorsman proposal Nraas put together for the devs to read, which would give our Ranger camps a real meaning without that another class has to pay for it .

Or how about if a droid is used in a med center or camp it's rating goes to 120

Does that mean every MOB in the game gets 10% more HAM? While it's nice to not nerf things, it's also no fun to be so powerful that nothing is challenging. Remember that there's two sides to every equation and just making one side bigger and bigger (in this case the players)will break things unless the other side is addressed.

With the new buff changes coming out, that extra 10% would probably only equate to another 250hp or so, I doubt it would be a noticeable increase, it certainly won't make things a piece of cake

I Also Agree that droid should not be "as good" as a full medical center. I perfer a better Med center, follow by a tech camp, follw by droid. I mean i would love to see a droid + Med Ctr = bigger bonus setup, or some sort of combo. Like i walk into a med ctr but use my own droid for +10 or use a public droid for +5... something like that.

Also it would be cool to see them surgical droids do something new. Most droids have no difference now, cept module spaces i think. But the new humanoid droids cant be named, so that kinda of sucks, i stll have my old old Surgical droid with a name, but it only has an Medical module of 40 =(.

Nerf or balance, i would rather see a logical heiarchy of bonuses being the greatest from the med ctr and ending with droids. Just makes more sense that a facility is bette rthen one droid.

I say nerf, becuse the devs are concerned the bonuses are already too high... that's why clothes have only +25 cap. It could be any number + 345 fro clothing... but it isn't, for a reason.

If it comes down to an either droids are +10 or med centers are +10, then I pick med centers. If I get leeway, I then throw camps in.

As for /registering. Nto true.

As of right now, registering in a normal med center is worth 0% increase 9was never intended in any dev post I ahve read... comon player myth. /registering was created so peopel would know when someoen was "on duty in med centers and cantinas... it is wortless sicne everyone uses droids, because they are better (for no goo reason) I have tested this on TC as well.
A bonus to player med centers while /registered was discussed but never implimented. I tested this in my hospital on TC, jsut to eb sure it didn't slip in.. no bonus.

/registering in factional bases is supposed to be +25% (as an added perk for risking your but in the GCW, when people come to kill you specifically). Factional + is currently broken on TC, and has possibly been broken forever, but it was hard to tell with randomness. Entertainer bonus is also reported broken (both of these are on the buglist).

We can't just keep adding. 100 is the base healing rate. If everything has 110 or 120, even 130.. 100 is no longer the base healing rate, because nothing uses it.

You dont see docs trying to nerf auto heal locations.

That's because we took care of that in beta. When a camp could auto-heal faster/better then an actual novice medic...

You should look first to where you can improve things rather than nerfing. We can all come up with ways to nerf each other.

You can't keep adding, though. Or you end up with sky-high, unrealistic numbers. As T has said, there needs to be a base set somewhere. That base is currently 100. Work from there.

How about BF being healable in camps with an entertainer.

Only reason this was never allowed, if I recall correctly, was the fear that cantinas would become empty. Well, aside from a select few, that is already the case. Don't see the harm in allowing this in larger, Ranger camps.

Yeah I have no probalems with BF healing in ranger camps (but I do in Scout camps). BF healing (with entertainer skills, nto autoheal) woudl be very "starwarsy" allowing people to have big game expaditions, and otherwise spend a lot of time "in the wilds." The high end ranger camps are very fancy, and already very useful on harder planets, but making them a portable healing station (for wounds and BF) is a good move for atmosphere.
