Thread: Common Doctor Annoyance: Can you come half way across the planet to buff me?
I'm not a master doc, I'm 1/3/4/0. Went out yesterday brought out my 110 med bot, and my 900 buff packs(Yelled out buffing with 110 med bot and 900 buff packs). I couldn't keep up, and all I had on was a surgeoun tag. It was pretty hard keeping up with all the tells and trying to reply. So I know it has to be worse for a master doc.
And yeah it kind of ticked me off when they would get a 972 Health boost, and a 1900 con boost and yell at me..
A guy I know just has a F key programed to /reply Sorry not buffing today out of packs.. Sorry..
Take care.

I am thankful for the demand for buffs - when I'm in that role. It's not the only thing I do in the game and too many players think that it is.
Sending "a simple no I'm not buffing atm" is good, until you are doing it a dozen times a hour. Or worse, getting into a debate with a player as to why you are not buffing now - because he's been looking for a buff at the Dantooine Mining Outpost for the last 15 minutes. It's demanding and rude behavior. There are common places in the galaxy where a player can find a Master Doctor selling buffs - Coronet starport springs to mind. I'd just like to see players perform a little more due diligence before they start hassling all the Doctors they know.
I'll assume, SoontierFel, that you have some combat skills. What if your combat skill was in high demand, but not a skill most players had for themselves? Wouldn't you feel a bit put upon if others kept approaching you or sending you /tells asking you (expecting you) to help them with their missions, clear out their spawn so they can finish the lair and so on? You are not in SWG to be at the beck and call of other players, are you? I'm certainly not.

The difference between a doctor and just any old combat profession is that a doctor isn't "designed" for combat. A combat medic is designed for combat but if you look at the skills and the mods of the doctor profession, an entire row is designated for wound healing speed, another row for wound healing effectiveness, and then there's the crafting row. Basically in combat you're a master medic with better stims who can rez correct? Anyways, my point is for the most part the advantages to being a master doc are wound healing and buffing (also rez and crafting better stims). Doc's are a service oriented profession in my opinion. If you want to use it strictly for fighting then do that, just fight with your friends and buff them. But if you're using it for a service to other players you can't really expect that whenever you're low on money everyone is going to come running to you, and when you have plenty and just want to relax with your friends absolutely no one will ask for a buff even though you have your master doctor title on and are buffing one of your friends.
In my opinion a doctor is not very different from a weaponsmith. I was a master weaponsmith/architect if I got sick of tells I took the tag off, and yah a lot of people still knew me and asked for weapons and houses, but I told them hey I'm off hunting right now.
I could give you 20 million stories about people wanting guild halls for 20k hehe, but my whole point is... I think docs are a service profession and if I'm not a jerk for asking to pay a doctor 10k for a buff, sorry that's just part of the job.

"The only reason to have your Master doc tag on is to show other people that you are a Master Doc. Since you are advertising to others with that, you have to expect people might send you a tell or something"
Just because we may have our master doc tag on doesn't mean we are advertising we're open for buffing business - come one, come all! Sometimes people wear a "master" tag in hopes that they will be asked to train someone looking to advance in that profession, and thereby earn some much needed AP points. Because the truth is, not too many Master Doctors are solely master doctors -- they are also working on another skill. And no one asks non-masters for training.
The problem arises in that we can't wear our Master Doctor tag hoping some novice doctor or medic will see/search us and ask us to train them, because we get quite literallyINUNDATED with /tells asking us to buff/heal/cure/rez/buff my pet/etc.
Maybe the devs can add a "buffing" or "not buffing" tag to go along with the MD tag? Kinda like hotels have "vacant" and "no vacancy" signs? ![]()
