Yeah. Thanks. I usually get cash tips. But I'll watch now. Might even let people scam, and then report them.

You know, even though they scam, buff them, claim I noticed it later, send proof to a CSR. Then I can roleplay a "doctor" turning in "criminals".

Syrael, if it was only a matter of someone pulling a clever trick I might be inclined to overlook it and say, "Ha, you got me, you "roleplayer" you..! I'll be on the lookout next time." But as any Doc can tell you: when you are selling buffs and there are 10 people sending tells, and asking if you have a line, asking how much you charge, and how longyour buffs last, and should they tip you before during orafter... The last thing you have time to do is sift back through chat logs and emails to make sure someone didn't try to pull a fast one.

Relying on tips is the least secure business transaction in the game. If a weaponsmith put his uber gun on a vendor, his biggest concern is making sure to type enough zeros in the price box, and he can always refresh after it's listed to verify the amount. This scam is the equivalent of having someone distractthe vendor, taking a gun off the shelf, and saying, "OK, I paid. Thanks for the uber weapon!"

Seeing a little confusion from people here, so I'll post a little more on this.

  1. Bank tips will generate an email. That email with have the first and last name of the person tipping you, with the caps being where it's supposed to be. Fake emails won't have the last name, and the caps won't show up. (The only way I know of to make a Fake email that looks like a real bank tip, is by doing a guild email. It's a fun joke to play on your PA if you can send out guild emails...)

  2. Cash-in-hand tips don't generate an email, it will generate a System Message. I have my system messages color set to red, that way it shows out really well.

  3. Ask for cash up front. The only problem with this is that some people think that when you ask for the money up front, that you're trying to scam them. Just politely inform them that you don't want to get scammed yourself, and even tell them that there's a /report command that they can use if you don't buff them. That will generally show them that you're trustworthy.

Hope this helps outa little more.

Yeah, I don't!

The first name will be capitalized in a real tip email, but not in a fake tip email. Not sure if it is possible to have a character with a first name that is not capitalized. If it is, I don't know HOW you would be able to tell from looking at the email.

I think that only cash tips generate a system message, which you can always scroll back in spatial to check if there is a dispute. The bank tips don't generate a system message for me. Is it that way for everyone or is there a setting I can change to get the bank tip to appear as a system message?

You know, it would be cool if you guys could be able to do all your buffing throughthe secure trade window. Just place the buffs in the window for each stat that's getting buffed, then the person receiving the stat enters the amount. After both individuals accept the trade, the person is buffed automatically and the doc gets his money.

All tips generate system messages. I can't imagine being suckered like this. In fact, I think my mail icon is always flashing from ignored email - vendor sales, factory out of ingrediants, etc...

If someone was like, "I sent you a bank tip".. I wouldnt need to look at my mail to say, "um, no you didn't". I'd tell them they should contact a CSR to get their money back, cause I didn't get your alleged tip.

bank tipping sends out an email to you and the person you sent too. you will also receive a system message; the other person will not however. the person who sent the tip will have his/her name capitalized in the Sender area of the email information.
