Eternal 'quest' to master carbineer...4-4-3-3 now, just 50k carbine and 50k combat exp to go. Sadly enough though, will probably drop it in favor of bio-engineer...I'm afraid of all the evil things that can push me around then though :x

I am a Master Doctor and Teras Kasi Master. I started my toon in the second month of SWG, and cross trained in both unarmed combat and medical skills. I became a TKM during the first week of October and an MD about 2 weeks later, no grinding involved but just straight crafting of all the medical supplies and hanging out in med centers and starports(I had no idea what a "tumble monkey" was at the time). Unlike some toons that only use doc profession as a buffing tool for themselves and others, I do carry all medical supplies for every ailment and condition in the game.

I'm a Master Doctor and a Master Weaponsmith.

I think the only one with this combo on all of Chilastra.

The hardest part? well, thats easy =) Finding all the resources I need for both Doc and WS

Hope my thoughts help...I've had master doc with a few combat professions and noncombat.

Combat wise: I've been a master doc and (1) master carbineer (2) master combat medic and (3) smuggler (dirty fighting line.

All 3 of these were pretty cool and made me feel both useful to groups and a powerful solo hunter....

(1) Combat med was too much crafting work so I dropped it. It also meant I didn't have enough points for scout....so I wasn't as self sufficient as I like to be. But in PVP (which I dont' like to do) the CM is king...so if that's what you like to do--then this might be the best combo for you. Area heals are key for groups attacking each other, but in PVE, docs can usually manage to run around and heal everyone who needs it without area.

(2) Smuggler was neat b/c it lets you feign death--perfect for those situations where someone wants you to rez them at great danger of aggroing something you can't kill yourself. Everyone always wants to protect the doc--what better way! And solo, the low blow (KD ) panic (delay) and 1400 pt last ditch shot just were enough most times to let me kill my targets.

(3) Carbineer is my current one. I can not only keep novice scout (or toggle that with novice artisan, only 100 cr to drop one for the other), but solo I can hunt most of the critters I need to for meat. And in groups, the state effects, group KD & dizzy, plus the choice of acid, heat, energy make the combat class a nice one to have in group. Not so handy as the CM's poisons or the Commando's burn..but the carbineer has some nice skills. Best of all though--carbines use action and health more than they tend to use mind for specials. This may change in future, but right now, I can spam away if i'm buffed...something I felt i couldn't do with pistols or rifle.

If you like to fly solo, then really think about swordsman or TKA, but the hard thing with melee is you need to be on the monster to attack, so you can't run around to heal a group/rez/cure states while stil connecting as well as you can with a ranged fighting style. But I dont' speak from experience as a *master* melee profession, just from when I was working on unarmed IV for smuggler.

Noncombat wise, I've done droid engineer (pointless, way to muhc crafting no common ingredients)...tailor (I liked making clothes even though I couldn't hunt..would buff people and dress them ...plus i got customized BE clothes out of it ) and merchant (opened a med store, which helped me make enough to never worry about buffing for cash again).

I didn't like being without combat b/c that is what I think I enjoy most inthe game...as for making money--if you get tired of being a buffomatic, just start selling stims on the bazar or hawk crates when you sell buffs....little investment in crafting pays of generally.

But you should be able to master any one of several different combat professions (other than commando, BH...and you can't master smuggler, but you don't really need to master it)...and still keep Doc. The key is just keep one of novice scout or artisan and switch it.

So think about your playing style and what you like to do. Depsite all the points doc uses, it leaves you plenty free.

Good luck ...and have fun...

You guys bring up some good points.

You know I never thought of just persuing another career path unless I could master it. pretty silly I guess.

I've just heard a billion times 'you must master..pistoleer' to see the true benefit... but Smuggler? I always thought of that one and why do I have to master it? I don't have to, do I?

How far did you get in smuggler? What were you missing by stopping short of master?

Master Doc/Master Pistoleer/Scout 0/0/1/0 and 1 point left over. I have 63% base composite with 80% electricity and 37% stun protection, with my buffs I am a force to reckon with but that became tough and then the sonic blaster came out!!! WOOOOOHOOOOOO, I waste people once again!! I know that composite seems low but it all has encombrance slices so I don't need buffs to wear it, I bought it because I like to wear it and not always do I like to be buffed, I duel allot of friends that always say no buffs, so I have my awesome armor to play with them.

I also have an insane pistol I traded for someone that does mind damage, so when I spam double tap on them I can tear people up really good. And most important, pistols cover just about all important damage types for hunting all kinds of critters, Kinetic, stun, energy, acid, heat. Most animals are vulnerable to one or two of these damages, my alt is a Carbineer/Ranger/CH with novice medic, this guy supplies my doc with meats and take me krayt hunting for fun with my friends, mostly I started an alt to get away from the tell hell I got with Billy being a very busy doctor selling allot of meds.

I have been doc + all of the following.

1. tkm tkm is overpowered in the extreme.

then we got holochrons for x-mas. i really love being doc so i decide to do holochrons as long as i could stay doc.

2. fencer (holochron) a nice combat skill, though not as ridiculously potent as tkm
3. image designer (holochron) not my cup of tea
4. bio-engineer (holochron) at least i got to sample pickets to death.

4th holo silent. woot! i guess. but i hated the one day grind of ID, and the 1 week grind of bio-engineer was much worse. I enjoyed the combat profs so I will do the rest of those.

5. pistoleer is stinky damage wise.
6. carbineer (not yet mastered, up to 1 3 1 2) i like this one so far.

so for me, doctor + a combat skill is the way to go. i love getting out and hunting animals, getting killed by nightsisters, etc. i intend to master carbine, of course, then either 2h sword or rifle. probly 2 hand sword.

the advantage of guns over mele is when things go badly, the mele usually dies first, and the doc well cant rez herself. aside from that, mele is more fun and much beter for soloing.

This leaves hmmm 18 sp left? which i trade between novice artisan for survey and novice scout for running up hills a little beter and harvesting meats and stuff.

Master Doc and Master Combat medic with 1144 in markmans(carbines 4 and ranged support 4)

Find this a good template i go hunting with my guildies for resources, make and sell mades that i dont use brings in some cash, can also mission for cash using area poison and leg shot 2 not hard.

I would not reccomend this template if your not ina guild or dont have some really good friends as it would be hard to survive on your own.

Well, I decided to go tkm the day farstar started and I picked up doc along the way because I can't help healing ....

I did doc/cm and HATED it ... you can't scout .... what good is that - because of prices, i'm forced to harvest next to all of my own stuff ....and without scout, i was screwed ... - My husband on farstar howerver is CM / Rifleman and loves it but he still can't scout ....

Then I did mdoc with a smidgen of cm and a smidgen of pistoleer which wasn't too bad ...

But above all i think i like my tkm/mdoc with 35% stun, 80% elec, and 85% base comp armorabove all else the most .... (and I didn't even mention the 37% psg, synthsteak andvesarian brandy hehehehehe)
