Thread: Dev Clarification on why buffs are the way they are on LIVE.
When we were offered overwrite abilities to deal with "A buff griefing" and problems with buffing sticking etc., the devs took it very seriously. Non-doc players hated getting stealth low buffed etc... Docs hated not havign a way to fix the problem.
Overwriting buffs was a solution to many problems, but it created 1 more...
There were doubtless to be people that had the time and credits to rebuff until they had "perfect 3+k buffs." With high end buffs already making a lot of the higher content too easy, the devs decided to make the closely debated fixed buff change as well.
Now legitimate lower buffs can be replaced by more balanced high buffs, also the powerful and wealthy cannot use the randomness to ultra-buff themselves and take advantage of the system.
This is the reason that tipped the balance on the fixed buff issue... a perfect set of very high 3+k buffs was something that many people would and could pay to have.. and it was just too much for the combat balance to deal with.

Presumably, yes, the random element will be removed. THer are other threads covering the formual being used to figure out your buffs (you could even use that same formula now to figure out where you average buffs are falling since all they did was remove the randomness that made them fall above or below that number.)
Easiest way to think of it is that as Master with no other modifiers you will do double the base pack's rating.

On average that's all they buff for now.
This is a key thing that most people are losing sight of.
Buff's have not been nerfed.
It's true you won't get the high end anymore... but you won't get the low end either. If you averaged out your buffs over time... that's exactly what you'll be buffing for now..... just every single time.
For every uber 3500 buff you got... you also got a 1200 buff. Now you'll just get a 2300 buff every time. Or whatever the exact numbers are.

What will my 31c/936p packs buff for? 2600?
Well, if you use a 110 med rating droid, +25 BE clothes, +25 Bivoli Tempari, then your kits will buff for 2582. Assuming there's 0 BF
Well my buffs are 830 i get over 3k alot, i like the way they work even with the phantom 1k buffs. Next thing we'll be shooting mobs for the same damage every time. I hate it when they change something ive worked months to get.
Somehow with my low base im gonna get the shaft here.

So....buying 40K a pop buff packs that are in the 900's will only buff for slightly over 2000 points?
Whats the max power of a Enhance C? Some docs who could experiment these up highly might wanna fall back to C's, if you can get close to 800 power, but with much less effort in resource gathering...
Its the same with Stims... some very good C's are way better than average D's....
Any thoughts?

very simple solution: only allow docs to buff people in their group.... its sooooo simple... just like training or Image designing....
Why dont they do that?
