Greets,

I've never posted here in the(doctor) profession forum because it seems difficult to post something new. While I doubt this is a 'new' post, I am having an issue with the profession and would like the advice of fellow Master Docs.

As we all know, becoming Master Doc is one of those professions that just sucks up gobs of Skill points, leaving us with little left for venturing out into a different field. I look at things like 'Master Droid Engineer' as a real catch because simply put, it's one branch of a minor profession and a full tree of an elite profession and you still have 80 some odd skill points left.

So, I ask , what are you aside from master doctor? Why did you chose that path and how long have you been doing it?

Myself, I am a Master Doc (not that long) and a Novice Pistoleer and Novice Fencer.( I cannot for the life of me figure out which way to go.)

I hate the time consuming nature of our buffs for money system (but I am always super polite and friendly to my customers). This is partially why I charge no less than 12K since build7. We don't have the advantage of some sort of 'vendor' robot with syringes in its hand. We have to sit out amongst the masses and work the crowds.

I also find the lack of skill points left over means we can just excel at one combat oriented role. So pistols seem to be the best compliment for myself.

How about you? How do you earn a living? What is your favorite complimentary skill set to compliment your Master Doc status?

I'm probably not the norm here, but my alternate skills are Bio Eng. Doesn't leave much room for anything else including combat skills, but it allows me to help out my guild in other ways and participate in events. My primary character is a Chef though, so I figured I'd try out doc for fun as an "alternate alternate" skillset on mysecond toon.

Group with an atst and get janta missions for cash. They pay 27k each and the jantas drop fast to TK. It's faster cash than pubams used to be on endor.

I've been a Master Doctor since early August. I took up Novice Medic when I started so I could heal my own wounds, I helped a couple people out while I was healing myself and it snowballed from there. Other than Master Doctor I am currently 0-4-0-1 in Marksman, 0-0-0-3 in Artisan, 4-0-2-0 in Scout and 0-0-4-0 in Pistoleer. This allows me to collect all my own resources and when I team up with a Master Heavy Swordsman friend of mine, we are a pretty tough team.

TKM and 4/4/4/2 doc. I have 0/0/0/3 artisan right now(although I am going to give up surveying 2 and 3 for master doc). I have a master doc alt(well, sorta alt, i share him as an alt with some other friends) that is a master combat medic. He is dropping that for master ch tho....

Master Doc/TKM. I did pistoleer but it was a waste as its a broken profession and got me killed more than I liked I am also Scout 0-0-1-0. With this combo I can kill just about anything in the game except the 100% kinetic resistant NS Elders and Janta Rockshapers..grrr..

Im in a good guild and have support with surveying resources (big shout out to Urraba !!!) and other things that I need. TK with some scout is the way to fly if you have resource help. Additionally I have enuf combat skills to run good paying missions solo for extra cash and also hunt for specific people on occasion for the larger pay-days..

If you arent into TK then Id recommend Rifleman.. but whatever you do.. drop the pistols! they arent worth it, trust me..been there done that

You guys bring up some good points.
You know I never thought of just persuing another career path unless I could master it. pretty silly I guess.
I've just heard a billion times 'you must master..pistoleer' to see the true benefit... but Smuggler? I always thought of that one and why do I have to master it? I don't have to, do I?
How far did you get in smuggler? What were you missing by stopping short of master?

Without the pistol skillmods it's apparently a bit pants. A friend of mine had just marksman pistol & dirty fighting and to be honest it appeared to suck. Not enough accuracy, not enough speed.

Having said that FD on a doctor should be useful.

I'd try to pick something that appeals though. You don't generally HAVE to master. Just don't spread yourself too thin (i.e. pistoleer and fencer both might be a bit too much).

Like my sig says I'm a Master Doctor and Teras Kasi wannabe (almost there).

My alternate character is an Artisian/Merchant.

I'm ALMOST able to do everything on my own.

heh, my post was long, but I guess I can add a bit more since you asked abut smuggler...

On smuggler, *all* the combat thingsare in one line, under the dirty fight tree, so that's 14 pts. At master, you get a little bit better chance to feign death, but honnestly? You're not giving up much--go ask the smuggler forum. They'll tell you its like 25% combat skills and 75% crafting (slicing spicing and faction dicing). You can also look at the skill trees in game and see waht I mean.

One more thing, I 've only used run of the mill weapnons from a decent weaponsmith. No krayt guns, no "special loot drop poison" things...I just have what ANYONE can easily get for the combat professions I have had. So I think if you picked up anyone of those professions, buffed yourself, got some brandy and decent weapons, you could easily solo missions on the hard planets, maybe solo a cave or two, and be able to be a good addition to any group (so if everyone dies or leaves for some reason, you can hold your own).

Hi! [smiles, waves] I'm a Master Doctor anda Combat Medic. Lots of crafting, which I enjoy. I support myself by making Medicines. I 'used' to be Master Doctor and Bioengineer, but after this last invalid pet checks, I found myself really confused about the class. See, I'm really not interested in tissues, and the only thing I 'really' got excited about was sampling and mixing and matching DNA to see what sorts of pets and abilties I could make.

I thought it would be fun to sell them, and I wanted to focus on smaller 'super' pets. Like Kaadu with Poison attacks or increased HAM, etc. But with all the changes I just didn't feel comfortable at all selling pets to people, having no idea if their levels would be correct or ruled as invalid.

So, with some sadness I surrendered my Bioengineer Profession, and started looking elsewhere for a profession. I'd always wanted to be able to heal at range, So I got into Combat Medic. I could keep all the cloning tank props in my workshop, and just say they were used to clone and engineer designer diseases and poisons. So, I'm excited about the class. I don't PvP, so I don't figure I'll make anyone angry or annoyed. I like being able to heal at range now (which used to be a problem just as a doctor), and I can apply bio toxins to things my friends are fighting, so I can help in that way. Lately, since I reached Master Doctor, I've felt a little useless after buffing the group. They turn into super humans, and with no combat skills, well, it was me standing in the middle of a mass of critter as my group fired away at them. So I was a bit bored. I'd often have my character sit down, near some tree, take out her satapad and begin to read the latest holo novel.

So with this poison and disease thing, I'm looking forward to helping past buffs again. [smiles]

I was master Doc and master TKM until a couple days ago. THat was a riduculously fun combination, hehe. I'd just buff myself, meditate and powerboost and waste Rancors, NS, etc. Now I'm doing Pikeman which has been pretty fun even though slow. But I'm keeping master Doc for awhile, its a great profession.
