Thread: What's the acceptable buff power really?
I personally feel the problem is the large fluctuation in buffs... When it comes right down to it a non master doc with a 750 buff pack can outbuff a master doc with an 800 str pack. So to answer your question a 825 str buff pack can be several hundred buff points better than a 739 pack. But with randoms the way they are this is not always the case.
Also try to see it this way... one ws makes a 200 damage republic blaster and sells it for 10k while another makes a 202 damage republic and sells for 15k. Given the choice most people will buy the 202 damage republic. Why? I dont know...people have a fascination with the biggestnumbers.. even in a system of randoms.
I don't get 3000 point buffs, but I've never felt them particularly necessary either.
Oh. and I don't charge obscene amounts of money for buffs. I ask the customer to tip what they feel they are worth when I'm done.
but not charging a standard amount just gets confusing, id rather have my prices set on Xk. ive seen the price range from 4k to 10k, and if i need a buff(not master doc yet, so im not buffing on a serius level), none of those prices would be too much for my blood
On Lowca I can make 830/19/10.3k buff packs (899-925 action) with the available resources, and Ironlung sells 899-930 paks (God kows how) at his place for 17-20k. The standard rate here is 10K for a full set, and its common to refund 1k back for buffs under 1100-1500 (depending on the doc). I know I didnt charge for buffs till I became a Master Doc, but now I can regularly hit buffs over 3k (3499 was my highest...)
I guess were blessed here on Lowca.
My rule of thumb is anything over 700 is usable, especially on the secondary stats. I shoot for over 800 on the primaries. It's a bit more important to have good buffs on action/health, and less so on con/stam and even less on str/quick IMO.
Also, if you're buffing for PvP, the time doesn't matter much either since you'll probably die long before the 2+ hour buff wears off.
When I make my packs I shoot for over 700 on all stats. I depeding on who I am buffing depends on when I pray for the buffs. I believe the combatants with good armour want secondary stats higher than the Health and action. If you use less and regen is great the primary don't really matter. But agreed, most people want numbers. I charge 5k no matter what for a full set. I ask for payment up front and I never refund any money. The radomization is too great to make an art or mathematical formula for buffs.
I agree Stormee. We're pretty lucky on Lowca. Right now, I just experimented with my latest batch of components and I can make 896/12.3k duration/26 usepacksand 928 for action. I'm trying to get a friend to make me some schems to add a few more power to my ABEC's so that I can hit that magical 900 barrier.
I sell my 889+ packs for 100k per set on Lowca without problems.
The main difference is that your range is MUCH higher with the higher packs. With a high 800 pack, you can possibly hit for 3-3500 while with some 700's, you might only hit for 2-2500. It might not be that much, but it's nice when the customers actually congratulate you when you hit a few 3k's on them. Also, you have to remember on the chance that you hit a bad roll, with a 900 pack, you're still going to be a few hundred points higher than with that 700 pack and that might make a HUGE difference to the customer.

Master doc/Lowca
an acceptable buff pack in my opinion for the purpose of selling buffs is above 800
in that way u are doing the very best for your customers, and it clears your conscience when you buff someone and that occassional awful random rears its ugly head.
i myself charge a minimum of 8k for a full set off buffs, and usually carry buffpacks that hit for around the 850's
wearing capped WT bio cloth and a 110 med droid i have virtually eliminated a buff below 1000 in fact i cant remember the last time one popped. And at the end of the day the profit margine is huge, if mind numbingly boring.
nowadays i dont buff for money the constant asks ,tells etc can make playing a doc unbearable,if any docs out there do use buffs of a poor standard to make a quick profit then i believe u ask for all you get whenplayers are not happy with the results.
Buffs are indeed random but u can at least raise the base level to an acceptable amount with a little effort.
hehe just another note, its worth using all same components and ingrediants across the board for your buffs that way the endurance and power are matched and buffs will usually drop within about 30 secs of each other, nothing more annoying than all your secondary stats dropping and yet still 40 mins left on your health and action.
Also players seem obsessed with health and action and not so concerned with the secondaries, yet they dictate how much damage is absorbed and how quickly the primaries recharge.i agree a bad roll on health or action can be a downer but having huge secondary stats can often make a huge difference and in some cases more than make up for a below average roll on health or action.
The best advice i can give is make friends with a good master ranger and try and note who seems to be selling the kind of resources u need most often, chat to them tell them ur needs eventually ur contacts will deliver the goods. And dont be tempted to use that precious good avian u have in stock or class 4 or reactive if u dont have the remaining quality ingrediants to use
