Thread: Whats with the max buff hysteria?

Ok now Ive been playing a while and to be quite honest Ive only had doc buffs once. This isn't because I dont think that doc buffs arent worth it or that they dont help. Its obvious they do. I just simply never take the time to get in line and get buffed. I'm assuming that most people are getting the uber buffs to PvP, something I have never done yet.

I always have food buffs though and those suffice for most solo missions and group gigs. Honestly any buffs are better than no buffs I can see a pretty dramatic difference in my performance just by using food buffs. Some brandy and synthsteak and Im ready to roll for solo missions. The only reason the brandy is great is because I can then get on all of my armour and still be able to heal. In groups I only don my armour if I got a monster heading towards me otherwise Im running around healing folks.

I'm working on Doctor myself now (1,1,1,4) and I'm wondering is it so god awful necessary to have 2000+ buffs? I just cant see it myself, ya it would be nice but wouldnt a nice middlin buff 1500 or so be nearly just as good?

I like healing folks and it will be nice to rez and cure poisons and disease you know .... Doctor stuff. I'm looking forward to being able to buff folks in my group and I suppose I'll buff others that want it. But I know that I probably will never go out of my way to find the absolute best resources just to make a buff that adds an extra 500 (well Im sure I'll do up one batch atleast just to test it heh).

Does anyone actually sell buffs in the 1500 range? Or only the 2000 range?

I dunno just seems that theres some sort o buff hysteria going... people talkin all crazy... calling 1200-1500 buffs trash etc. Thats just wacky. Theyre easily twice the effect of food buffs with twice the lifespan. Ok I'll grant you they arent worth as much as uber buffs but theyre still worth something. (any ideas as to worth ???)

Yes I intend to make buffs and sell em. I know folks will buy em as long as I tell them before hand that theyre not uber super buffs and just good ones. I usually hang around Tatooine and thats usually pretty doctor buff scarce during my play times. We'll see.

Now for a name.... Budget BuffoRama....or Cheap-o Buffs .... or the Trabant of Buffs..

I think some peoplewould beperfectly happy with a sub 2000 buff.. I just don't know if the discount in price is worth the difference though. I mean.. would someone be willing to pay 6000 credits for a sub buff compared to 10k when the 6k buffs might last an hour less as well as be for less points?

Seems to me that if I am going to pay for buffs I would want the best possible and the price difference would mean very little.

If someone just wants to get their armor on, then any old buff will help. However, sometimes in PvP every little point makes a difference, and if they have high enc armor, the higher the better.

But yea.. I don't think calling 1200-1500 buffs trash is fair. By themselves they rock.. it is just when they are compared to 2400+ that they start to not look so good.

I carry 2 sets of buffs on me. Light hunting- 1500- 2000 range and Heavy hunting buffs - 2200-2600 range.

Only buff me and my friends though and they are happy to get a 1500 buff for free any day. Only reason I use the heavy buffs is because I tend to solo a lot or hunt with one other trusted friend. Lately I only hunt Jantas and NS, which requirea heavy buff.

I don't sell buffs. I tried buffing for one day and out of the 10 ppl I buffed, only 2 actually paid. So, I only do friends now.

I sell 1400's and 1500's... my first batch of buffs that I'm still trying to run through before making more. I haven't dipped into my stash of good resources just yet, and I'm dying to try them out!

There are two types of people out there.... one type (like me) who feel that a 1500 buff suits them just as well as a 2000 buff. Then there are the buff addicts who need every point they can squeeze out of a buff. These are the people who will complain about your buffs if they are low, even if they are sold at a deep discount.

Your best bet is to be honest about your buff stats. If they don't want them, they don't need them. And if they complain afterwards, it's their own fault.

You can get plenty of business with 1500 buffs. Here's how it works: The aforementioned "buff addicts" line up with the doc who has the highest buff stats (and, invariably, the highest prices). After a while, the line gets incredibly long. Soon, the people who just need any sort of buff to go hunt will grow tired of waiting on line. Once they realize that you are there, charging less than the other doc with much less wait time, they will flock to you. This will draw attention, which brings more customers, etc.

Well ill tell you as a friend just told me. People who have great armor dont need 2000+ buffs really. 1500 would do just fine for them, because they still wouldn't see their health drop. If they were fighing rancors and night sisters, then they would need as high a buff as they could get.
Lower end armor, or no armor would need high end buffs 2k+. I will say there are a of these people out there. Not many people can afford a 1 million dollar suit and mind food. This is where buffers make there money really.
I hope that answers your question. There are some who 1500 would do fine across the board. Just charge them accordingly. Ask they other docs around you their power, and price for their buffs before starting.

Thanks for the responses. I suspected that the reality was a little different than the common conception.

Being a Doctor is a lot of fun, its pretty amazing what a good healer can do for a group. Thats why I do most of my hunting on the lower level planets the groups there need healers way way more than the groups on Dath. Ive been on several hunts there where everyone (except me) was buffed to the gills, I got hardly any healing xp there. In fact most healing there is for pets...no xp.

Good thing the meat harvest was good. But as I climb the Doc tree, my scout skills are startin to flag so Dath is very quickly loosing its allure for me, its to dark there anyhow.

Give me a nice chaotic noob group anyday, way more fun.

Another question on a tangent... Does anyone actually explore in this game. Seems to me that everyone is pretty balls-to-the-wall for missions. Ive only been playing for 4 months, if ya dont count my first 30days at release...sadly my computer at the time was willing but was woefully underpowered.

Well if anyone knows of a good guild on Ahazi either Imp or Reb...I'm neut but itchin to join a side. Please let me know.

My buff's range from 1.5 - 2k and I sell them for 8k a time, and no-one complains at all. Infact alot of people say that they are nice buffs.

I used my own buffpacks on myself, which gave me 2500+ in all my stats. I buffed my gf too but I forgot to eat the bivoli and also she had shock damage so her buffs only came out to like 1600 all stats. We went fighting together, both of us are TKA, and she died like 3 times within an hour. I almost died a few times as well so that extra 700 came in handy.I would be down to almost 300 in my HAM and I would remember to heal myself, but if I had her kinda buff beforehand, I wouldnt have made it either.

But then again, it really depends on what youre doing or what youre fighting against. My gf and I wanted fast XP so only the two of us (with our meager novice TKA) went sharnaff hunting together. Some people might need as high of a buff, but really depends on what that person is needing it for.

I still believe, and most do also, that duration is the most important unless you are expecting to get killed all the time. A 3.5 hour buff compared to a 2 hour buff is a MAJOR difference.

Your substats need to be 1600 after all of your ecumberance is taken away for you to not suffer HAM penalties from your weapons. And the higher they are the better you heal yourself naturaly.

IMO better buffs are worth the $$ and wait in line.

The effective line currently on secondary stats is about 1500.. above that is not really useful.

Main HAM stats are a big concern to soloists and people taking on stuff they probably should not be able to beat.
Every point + their 80+% armor allows them to kill bigger stuff safely. Combine with 400 pt. Stim B's and a heavily armored soloist can kill incredible amounts of stuff.

Man of my characters can get by with very small buffs (500-800), and those are mostly to deal with special costs... anything above that is overkill for what I do / who I play with.
