i never understood what the difference was between carbine and a reg blaster and pistol. What is it

Basicly it is supposed to be a machinegun..

carbines have been around for 100's of years...actually, they are just a cross between a pistol and rifle. powerful fire, yet small enough to fire while riding horseback. these were used extensively during the civil war.

Well ya, in a litteral sense, then they are basicly small rifles... think of the ones used by paratroopers in WWII(M1 Gerand carbine). Not as powerful as a full rifle, but more powerful and with a longer range then a pistol.

thier was the M1 Grand which was the rifle made for standard troops, and the M1 Carbine giving to certain troops, paratroopers (paratroopers did not use the M1 Carbine much), medics, engineers, ect.

the M1 Grand was an amaizng rifle at the time, and used all the way into the korian war by US troops. finaly beeing replaced by the M14. when introduced the M1 Replaced the U.S. Springfield made in WW1. WW1 was also had a lare place for the carbine. Most used carbine of WW1 was the Mousqueton modele 1916. it was used by the french mainly, but all armies used carbines during WW2, as although less powerfull than a standard rifle they were less unwieldy as well. basicaly the shorter barrell allowed it to be used more efficently in trench warfare. Another kind of odd fact about WW1, carbines were perty much the only infantry weapon to get the attention of R&D departmetns. thier curent rifles they could live with, as well as pistols, but carbines, now thier was somthing that needed looking into . . . kind of like now

Carbines were the single mostissued personal weapon by the USMilitary in WW2.

I own an AR15 (The civilian version of the M16...semi-auto only). Mine has a 16 inch barrel and is refered to as a carbine. The same weapon with a 20 inch barrel (more standard issue for the most part) would be called a rifle.

The 20 inch barrel has a longer effective range (say 200 yards instead of 150) then the carbine but the shorter and more balancedcarbine is easier to maneuver in tight spaces so you're more likely to see SWAT teams etc. use them.

Im not sure why they wentwith the whole attackbody, action, and mind thing with pistols, carbines and rifles respectively but I assume they had to make some differences between the weapons and with the engine limitations you couldn't just make it range. And thereare not too many real world advantages over a rifle(Carbine is quicker and easier to use then a rifle especially at close range...also lighter easier to carry for long periods) or pistol (still pretty good at close range but more muzzle velocity then a pistol (9mm round may be around 1200 fps at muzzle...5.56mm is 3200 fps) and will almost always have a larger magazine) that could be put into game terms.

But I digress.....

um full-rifles were the grand was a full rifle, carbines weren't as popular, the carbine held a 10-30 round clip (theres the small 10 round one and the 30 round banana clip) carbines had lower accuracy and were smaller, the grand was more powerful, accurate and even though it had an 8 round clip it was prefered over the carbine

Not that it really matters but to translate this ^^^^ he mean's Garand. Note the spelling, it isn't hard.

And second, the M1 Carbine had either a 15 or 30 round clip. Not a 10 or 30.

I guess the Devs decided to lump things like sub-machine guns in with carbines because they are larger than pistols and smaller than long rifles. While they played a little fast and loose with the strict definition, I like the fact that the medium ranged weapons (in this sytemcarbines)wereassigned the "crowd-control" or AOE role. The overall system is well thought-out, however the implementation still needs to be balanced.
