Thread: Area attacks and PvP battles?
Was in a big pvp battle ona battlefield on corbantis this evening. I was using this opputinity to practice what i like to call spray and pray. As far as i could tell my action shot 2 and fully auto area 1 were hitting multiple enemies and were making a mark on the battle field or at least till a riflemen lined me up and shot me dead. In the present environment with to many one shot kills our lower damage area effect are only as good as long as we arent targeted. With the new patch i can imagine our support role becoming better but one might want to rember to have several carbineers group together and fire together. I still belive we need more testing on the situation before any strong conclusions can be made but i hope this enlightens the situation.
I'm thinking of making a template for group PvP and see area attacks as a potentially strong reason to choose carbineer as one of my professions.
Well, to more fully expand on my thoughts...
I'm a veteran player of Anarchy Online, and from my experience in mass PvP there, area attacks from multiple users can result in mass die-offs on the targets. In many high level battles, teams of area nukers would form to fire theirnukes at the same time. The damage caused is pretty significant and the people who don't die often run away to try and heal up before the next barrage can hit them. So teaming up a few carbineers to focus fire on the same area or group on the battlefield would be a big part of the tactic.
Two or three Carbineers supported by a medic to keep their health and action from draining too fast could probably keep an area pretty well covered with knockdown and damage fire. A combat medic could even (when they are fixed/improved) throw area poisons to help in the assault.
The 75% PvP damage reduction and some organization and cooperation will be an important part of success while doing this. And I guess it remains to be seen if this is a better way to fight than just getting headshot 3, a T21, and a couple friends to all shoot at the same target at once.
