Thread: For those that think the laser is best in all situations
Finally found a perfect example. ![]()

Plagued, you'll notice that the AR is 2, so the laser carbine gains no bonus due to AR -- it does listed damage. But then, it's also 15% energy resist, so it does 85% of its listed damage to the target. However, it's vulnerable to acid, so a DXR6 would do 100% (bypassing AR due to vulnerability) of its listed damage.
However, I would contend that the laser still has an average damage that is (even without the AR) right up there with the other stuff or even higher. It'd take an AR3 with heat/acid vulnerability for me to consider it truly "worse."
correct me if I am wrong but actualy the laser would still be better in this case.
The creature is AR2 + 15% energy. so a laser carbine would do 85% max damage.
Thier is no acid vonerability, and no special protection, so an AR2 acide based gun would do 100%, but as the DRX6 is AR1, it will only do 50% of its damage.
85% > 50%
I'll direct you guys to the Armor FAQ: http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/content.jsp?page=Advanced%20Guide%20Armor%20Fundamentals
Vulnerability denotes Damage Types in which the armor offers no protection whatsoever. Our bone armor has quite a few of these: Kinetic, Blast, Stun, Heat, Cold, and Acid. Whenever the armor is hit by one of these Damage Types, all of the damage goes through. The target wearing this armor would also have an Armor Rating of None against any of these Vulnerabilities.
Now, take a second look at the linked shot. This mob does indeed have a vulnerability to acid.
Thus, to put it as elegantly as PlaguedLeper, it's 85% (laser) vs. 100% (DXR6). Now, if your laser DXR6's listed dps ( (min+max)/(2*spd) ) is less than 85% of your laser's listed dps, laser still wins. But I think DXR6 and EE3 are close enough that they would probably edge out the laser by a small margin. The difference would be even more pronounced on an AR3 with acid/heat vulnerability.
Your right, I thought thier would be a % next to the vunerabilty, bah, idot thingking thier.
But the DXR6 would not get a bonus so
laser = 85% DXR6= 100%
According to the guide it gets a bonus.
"Our bone gloves are struck by the power hammer for 200 base points of damage. The power hammer does blast damage which is a Vulnerability. As a result, the bone gloves offer no protection. Armor Rating of None vs. Armor Piercing of Medium results in 25% more damage (200 x 1.25 = 250) and then another 25% more damage (250 x 1.25 = 312). All of the damage goes through doing reducing the armor's current Condition by 312 to 8410."
