Thread: Laser carbines the best kind?
It seems like the armor penetration makes the Laser the most damaging carbine. Is this pretty much the case? I just bought an EE3 from a vendor that was selling Lasers for the same price, but the EE3 had far better HAM costs. Was this a bad choice?
Are lasers affected by the current HAM bugs?
This is based on the difference between the listed damage in the combat window and the floating numbers. But actually the damage inflicted on a target it neither of these numbers. For example i hit a Bantha for 175 listed damage with a AR0 weapon, 148 was the floating damage, but the actual impact on the Banthas HAM bars were 118 points. The bantha had 15% energy resist which gives 148.75 if you calculate 175*(1-0.15), so that seems to be in order. How the 118 shows up im not sure.
Laser carbine might be crap on you server, Incompetence, but they are the best avail carbines atm on my server.
On Eclipse the best carbines avail are E11, EE3, and Laser Carbines.
I prefer the Laser Carbine because my biggest hit reported with it (above the mobs head, because I use scattershot2 religously and it only reports 1 dmg) has been 2717. The dmg multiplier from the AR2 is hard to beat, because your dmg output is always going to be higher than any other shot.
I'm using a sliced carbine 23-263 with 43 action HAM, 4.3 sec delay. Full autoarea1 has dmg multipliers letting me hit above 1k, usually around the 600-800 range on targets that are standing close enough together. My EE3 sliced to 180 max dmg hits nicely and fast, but just doesn't have the AR to make me happy vs. the big mobs I'm hunting. It's max dmg hit from scattershot 2 is about 1700 or so.
The best kind of carbine comes down to a simple truth: The best one you can find is the best one to use.
If you only have crappy laser carbines because of material availability, don't use them, use something that the weaponsmiths are getting great designs of. Eclipse has not seen 1 Elite carbine that I know of, and I've been watching the output of all the major weaponsmiths on the planet. The resources don't even exist for it yet, so I would say that for Eclipse, an Elite carbine is a really really really really bad choice of weaponry.
Laser carbines on Eclipse have the 2nd lowest HAM costs and the highest dmg of any available weapons. EE3s are lower Action cost but higher Health cost than other carbines, and fire faster.

Well, my EE3 is pretty sweet, if I'm careful. It kills me just as quick as the monsters do. I'm a medic, so my Health is only 700, compared to Action - 1000 and Mind - 1000
My EE3 cuts 43 HP's per special, which hurts, but the extra damage is worth it. I can't wait to try oura Laser Carbine, but I haven't seen one on Gorath yet. ![]()
