Thread: HAM of a carbineer...
As a human carbineer/weaponsmith, I've settled on (and mostly like), nice middle-of the road HAM pools, weighing in at 900/900/700. I don't find my health drain to be exceptionally bad, since carbine moves don't have a large health modifier typically, so I just pegged my health regen at a modest 450 and left my health drain stat at the racial minimum of 400, which is good enough to regen me from taking hits reasonably fast as well as good enough on the drain to keep health drain slower than action (which is my weak spot). Action regen and drain are both maxxed, at 550 and 500 respectively (I think.. might be reversed). Again, this provides for fairly quick downtimes, and the drain is as good as I'll get. If my race permitted, I would bump these up even higher. Finally, my mental drain and regen are pretty high as I spend a lot of time surveying on the run.
Speaking from experience in combat trees during beta (explanation provided so I dont seem too much on the high horse here), its a common mistake for new marksmen to put an overwhelming amount of ham into health.
The health pool is good for a beginning marksman when he lacks accuracy and gets hit alot. He also doesnt have many skills that will use action he'll be spamming during combat. If you're seriously thinking about being a carbineer, think about what weapon you'll be using. You obviously want the best damage per second you can get out of a carbine, and that means having one of yours sliced. I've seen carbine speed around 2.0 on a good sliced carbine, and Im sure it can go lower.
Why bring this up? Well, carbines are pretty notorious action-eaters for their skills. Most carbines use health and action, though I currently have a nifty E11 that uses mostly action. Now if you have a good speedy carbine that takes a chunk of your action (and health) each time you use a skill, you're going to want to take this into account. If most mobs you will be fighting hit you for health damage, and you're going to be using action for skills at a fast rate, you probably want to keep your H and A at the same #s.
Carbines use slightly more action as a whole though, and you are an artisan, so we need to tailor this build to you.. If you werent an artisan, the build I would suggest would be 900/900/ (650-800). Secondary stats are alot more important than ham pools if you plan on wearing armor and still being able to use skills well in it. Since you are an artisan, though, you'll want more action than 900 probably.
900 / 1000 / 800 sounds to me like a good HAM setup for an artisan/carbineer. Im sure you'll want to tailor it to your own specific needs, so merely take my advice as a general suggestion. ![]()
As a zabrak artisan, I have some racial pluses in the HAM area, and being an artisan, my HAM will obviously be set up different than a marksman.
My question is this. What does the HAM bar look like of the average carbineer? I'd like to migrate my stats some to put me on a more even keel with both the smithing and carbineer professions.
Thanks,
