Carbineer Archive
Thread: We are getting a HUGE nerf.
If you believe this is an exploit - and calling a skill in the game an exploit is a big iffy to me - how do you kill big game while not using it? With large mobs hitting you for 2-3-400 damage per hit and having huge HAMs along with resistance, how exactly are you to engage such a mob aside from mindlessly having a creature tank for you. You cannot, so don't say you do, tank these groups with even with a healer...hits the head are not healable and happen. If using carbineers to pin mobs while others do damage is removed, how else will we killmobs?
-Have a creature tank while a doctor (should we rename him to a Vet?) heals the pet. Yawn.
-Get a large group and just tank it? That's a death lottery. The mob, especially if its social and brings 3 friends, will take people out from head damage. I don't enjoy death lottery hunting.
-Bleed and then run like mad?
-Have a Ranger spam traps?
Exactly what are these non-exploit tactics you use to keep your group members from taking mind hits while the 10k HAM target is pummeled.
FWIW, a single carbineer is not enough to take out big groups of aggros. You need 2 because a miss is death. I hunt like this: 2 carbineers pinning, 1 designated pistoleer warning shots anything that gets through, a medic/doctor and the rest do damage and throw traps. This is an exploit? You have to be kidding me. I am also a squad leader and this is my ideal hunting party. Everyone has fun in my groups and not a single person has yet to complain about us using cheesy tactics. I have been in death lottery hunting groups, it's no fun, when people die they always seem to "have to eat dinner now" and the groups fall apart. Matter of fact, I get spammed with "where are we hunting tonight?" as soon as I log on.
The answer to knockdowns and posture changes is resists and defense. Prone = +75% knockdown resist, Kneeling = +50% knockdown resist and these are in addition to the resists we have no that
I saw this nerf coming round about the same time that I realised Bantha Matriarchs could be single pulled and pummeled into the ground without taking a scratch.
These were red con mobs that would respawn fast. 2.5k weapon exp and 250 combat exp a kill and occasionally I'd have to deal with 2 at once. If it was a single mob I'd cycle the two actionshots and if I had two I'd use actionshot 2.
It's the same as with EQ, designers not having a clue how to use their "cool skills" to the fullest and becoming appalled when the playerbase figures out the best way to use them.
Am I going to drop Carbineer because of this? No way, the class has so much going for it and even one posturechange/knockdown per mob every 30 seconds is going to massively reduce the damage taken by your group.
Crap.
I just got novice carbineer too.
Looks like its time to uncert and grab commano.
I'm sorry for those who think carbines are the 'ultimate weapon' - you are mistaken. I worked long and hard to carve my way up to Novice Carbineer with nothing better than a DH17. No armor penetration, hideous HAM drain per special move shot, ad nauseam. Carbines do less damage than rifles AND pistols of the same 'tier' (or maybe equal to pistols, yay), uniformly have anywhere from ridiculously to merely significantly higher HAM costs to do anything that they can do, and do not even EVER get the option to do kinetic damage or cold damage or .... Great, wonderful, seems balanced so far. Excluding a laser carbine, I have owned at least one of each - and am dissappointed. An 'elite' weapon eh ? Gee, thanks. That stupid T-21 rifle gets TWO tiers higher armor penetration for the SAME degree of xp investment ? Uh huh. Oh, and it does about TEN times as much damage per shot ? Dropping to a mere THREE times as much on special shots against unarmored foes ? Thanks so much, I'm nauseated here. Oh, yes, almost forgot - the "let's nerf x something or another" bantha poodoo that circulates through out the boards. C'mon people, devs and players alike - "nerfing" stuff is NOT the answer. Make the "elite" weapons actually ELITE weaponry, by the stars! Someone who has put THAT much effort and THAT many skill points into ONE type of combat is to be rewarded, melee or ranged. I KNOW Teras Kasi is, and rifle as well. My best shot with thebest weapon of the class against an unarmored opponent should NOT be HALF or lower that of the second-best weapon used by riflemen. Range penalties etc. are hard enough. Hosing carbineers' combat abilities is even worse. They're hosed enough as it is, and need to be EQUALIZED with the other gunbunnys' skills, not made worse, Bad enough our hardware hoses us, now our own skills are going too to ?
While we're at it, how about making creatures and pets and droids sensible again ? I generally enjoy the game, in spite of the significant imbalances in what [when I started playing] were, and still are, my concept/chosen professions. I DO resent that one of them seems to be riding an even harsher version of the nerf wagon than usual. The second has been nerfed from Day 1 - that's another forum however. Only one works semi-right. So far. (A third forum - but I digress to borrow a friend's pet phrase.) Anything else rude awaiting those who are holding to thier starting concept ? I'm tired of seeing PETS rule the game and not PLAYERS.
/con (Singing Mountain Rancor)
*** Singing Mountain Rancor looks like an Instant Death.
You use Pistol Whip on Singing Mountain Rancor for 656 points of damage!
You use Pistol Whip on Singing Mountain Rancor for570 points of damage!
You use Pistol Whip on Singing Mountain Rancor for632 points of damage!
(A million pistol whips and heals later![]()
You gain **** pistol experience and *** combat experience.
Theres a good rough draft on my average battle with a rancor. Yep, it sure was an "insta-death"
(This is agreeing with MadBarbarian's post on red and yellow cons)
LOL, sorry man, but try playing a Pikeman or a Swordsman. If you did you'd understand why that comment is so hillarious.

The problem is, some red-cons are manageable. Some are not. Hell, I've used the exact same tactic (go prone, AS1, and then spam Leg Shot 2.. I don't even /have/ anything more serious yet) on whites, yellows, and reds. Sometimes I kill the red. Sometimes I get owned badly.
If they nerf carbineers, they should also bring some difficulty modifiers down.
I'm a medic. I'm not a professional fighter. The only reason I'm almost a Novice Carbineer is because I have to run missions to sustain my medical affairs (resources are expensive), ridiculous as that reason may be. I have little interest to group with people cause I prefer healing in a med centre.
Ever tried healing in a big group that keeps moving around without being a Combat Medic? It's a continual exercise in frustration.
So, yeah. The nerf will suck. Badly. :/
What is really funny is this nerf might end up coming back and helping us. Holo basically stated that there will probebly be some nerfs to everyone, and it looks like with pistoleer loosing disarmshot2 that our knockdown is becoming more unique.
On a side note, the part that this MIGHT help us is if the Devs target out Eye shot as being too powerful... with pistoleers with no disarmshot2 knockdown, and BH with no eye shot then Carbine's will be a very... interesting choice to have because you can no longer spam-knockdown/eye shot with pistols, and the 3x melee with rifles sucks.
Just a thought, I'm not loosing hope yet. I actually just start a new toon everytime they nerf me, that way I can play the one that isn't currently nerfed without having to surrender 500,000 experiance worth of skills everytime they nerf someone ![]()
