Thread: Beat these Laser carbines
That elite still isnt better than the laser carbine mentioned, its got about 5-10 higher average damage but when you count in the higher AR, the laser is still going to outdamage it. Plus if you're using it at a lower skill level the speed is alot worse too. A lesser damage variance isnt going to make it do any more damage than a laser, its just less spread out,and on anything that can take a few shots from it it's going to even out in the end.
On damage calculations, shouldn't we take into account that EE3s do heat damage and DXR6's acid damage, while laser does energy damage?
I don't know if damage type really matters, but so far most creatures I've seen got a 15% or more protection against energy, while no protection from heat (or even a vulnerability to it).
Anyway, personally I use a EE3, fast, steady, reliable damage with relatively low HAM costs. I keep a good and fast laser carbine with me too, for Armor Piercing purposes.
You are very wrong about the average damage being only 5-10 higher. A laser carbine doesn't hit for 300+ on average. It hits for maybe 200+ on average. Currently my average hit (after hunting for an hour without using any special attacks) is approximately 438. Next hour I used specials solo and my average hit was for 1157. Try to do the same with a laser carbine please. While yes the Laser Carbine has 1 level higher AR, that still doesn't make enough of a difference to make it better then the elite carbine. A simple powerup of max damage places my top end damage on par with most laser carbines. Also the elite carbine I use isn't the best possible since the resources we have available on intrepid for them isn't top quality yet. Now when you mention speed, yes my weapon is slower then the average laser carbine, but I have enough skill that I can fire almost every 2 seconds. If you hit harder consistently you will do far more damage.

I just count the average damage as max + min / 2, which is what I meant, not the actual hits. Would have to actually do long parses about that stuff to get accurate numbers, but I've not bothered with that since you dont get the "real" damage numbers in the log anyways.. But in any case, I havent seenmy laser hit for the minimum damage any more than the max damage, so I dont see any point of getting a weapon that statwise is inferior just because the damage per hit is more consistent
Elitehits consistently for 1000 damage each shot, laser hits half for 200 and half for 2000.. laser still comes out as more damage

2 blasters they're comparing are Lazer carbine and Elite carbine.. both energy. in rare cases with NPC's damage type helps avoid armor resists (ie dxr6) but even with high resists +50% resists) with the AP2 the lazer carbine 'still' ends up doin more damage.
It's kinda sick, it's kinda stupid. that's just how it works.
